Can anyone answer a quick question please.

I live in a house of footy lovers. I know it is the one thing my OH and boys will REALLY miss when we leave the UK. :wah I intend getting Sky but when I looked at their web site I didn't see any football. Do they show any of the big English clubs on Sky at all?

I would love to be able to put their minds at rest that they will never see it again. (If not on Sky is there any other way of watching it eg Internet)

Its a very good question and one I would like the answer to myself.
Both me and my youngest are big football fans, only problem is I am a Sunderland supporter so perhaps we will be better off without it!

Almost all of the UK soccer you'll see in NZ will be on Sky.

Go to www.skytv.co.nz (http://www.skytv.co.nz) and look at the guide (choose sport as the genre to narrow things down).

If you hurry, in 10 mins there's a replay of Everton v Chelsea starting on Sky Sports 2, and if you miss that it's on again later on ESPN, along with Notlob v Arsenal.

Hi Nicola,
Tell the lads no worries. Monday evening about 7.30 you get all the highlights from the prem. Saturday night/ Sunday morning/evening, live games (depending on kick off times) with all the same guys from sky tv uk commenting on the games. On a Friday night again 7.30ish you get the Prem preview of the weekend games followed by a live game from the Aussie ('soccer') leauge. Also dont know if the HO likes radio 5 and the 606 phone in show, if so down load BBC Radio Player and you can pick up the show any time of day. When I was in NZ I just loved listening to 606 on a Sunday morning!
So go tell the boys they will miss nothing, although some late nights will be needed!! Good luck.........David

... and if what David just told you isn`t enough, there`s even REAL AMERICAN FOOTBALL!! Every Monday night N.F.L. game on ESPN next season, shown at 3 p.m. Tuesdays here. Was that a collective non-American groan I just heard? :laugh

if you have a half decent internet connection (512k) then you can watch a lot of the games over sopcast or pplive programs, google the names! I refuse to use sky here and will do the same in NZ bunch of thieving basterds! Plenty of footie in this hemispehere without sky. Get every game of every weekend without them :)

Hi Nicola

This is the first thing I checked when we were considering going out there! After that I looked at things like schools, health, quality of life etc. :D

As others have stated, there are plenty of games on Sky (probably more than we get over here in the UK). I've been doing what RonnieB suggests as well, for £2 a game or £7 a month you can get a live stream of most matches, quality variable but something that's only going to improve as broadband bandwidths increase.

Anyway, gotta go now. Got last night's MOTD taped and then need to prepare for the two live games this pm. Such a hard life being a footie follower!

Oh, and my understanding is that it's compulsary to call it soccer  when you're in NZ.

Yup, mention football, and they assume you are talking about that funny shaped ball that gets carried about...

Yippee :nice1

we don't need to miss our footie matches after all.

I'm gonna be a real sado when we get there, I want the match of the day theme tune as my mobile ring tone... Whenever I've lived away from the UK, that tune has always made me think of home...

If you know where to go and have a good connection there are plenty of sites that offer torrents of capped games, highlights etc etc of games from all over the world for people that cant get access to them in their home countries, i get MOTD and soccer am each week while in NZ

5 live english premiership games each weekend.
Live Dutch footie every weekend
Live spainsh league every weekend
Live A league every weekend

Average weekend, Sky Sports will do at least 10 - 12 games.

Average weekend, Sky Sports will do at least 10 - 12 games. So don't panic - this means that there are more soccer games broadcast in NZ than footie (ie RU) games!

The main thing that does suffer through is the lower league sides, if you support a prem team you will be sorted but if they exist it the championship or lower you wont really get any coverage at all. Sky pretty much just covers the top league in each country (+the FA cup 3rd round onwards)

Tell me more.

I watch soccer AM every week on SkySports, not so much MOTD (as I watch the Irish version on RTE which airs at 7pm - a much more viewer friendly time)

I was gonna ask a friend to tape 2 saturdays worth of soccer am onto a 6 hour tape (LP) and send it down

...but if you can shed some light on what you're doing and what you're doing it with - that would be great.

You know Steve, somehow I had the feeling you may have brought last night's little result to our attention, didn't expect it to be in such grandiose style though? Saw a similar one to that taking the mickey out of L*******l, but that would have been unprintable on the forum.
But what is going on with the Arse?? First Everton and now West Ham? Good lord they must be going through a bad patch!! :laugh
