Yep we will be there, Wendy wants another one of those ice creams ;)

For three of us it's £1450 plus accommodation with Singapore airlines, a few of Wendy's relations have flown with them and couldn't recommend them enough. They have an offer on at the moment with accommodation, also you get entry to all the attractions free..

Both me and Wendy have been sorting out the garage for the past two days and still haven't finished :no

When I went onto Singapore airlines webpage the prices change everyday, it all depends on the dates you want. When I first checked for our flights it was £1450, then the next day £1650 the prices seem to go up £200 every day. Yep we were getting some silly prices like £4k.

In the end we contacted travelbag 08708144788 , a relative of Wendy works for them, give them a call and ask for Clare and mention you know Wendy Potts. She was able to get flights for £1450 instead of the £1650.

Just ask If I can help anymore.

Well what a day

I’ve been at work all day, got a phone call from Wendy "They can’t fit it all in the container" :no I knew it, I just knew it.......well Wendy phoned GB Liners they said we can put the rest of it in a shared/part full container.

But you will have to pay for it "I don’t think so" Wendy said. When I got home I had a look what was left and I reckon it would fill about another 1/4 of a 20ft container, so they were not even close.

Well awaiting on another phone call tomorrow from the manager, so we will see what happens. By the looks of things we will have to pay two lots of MAF fees as well :roll

Moved in with Wendy’s parents last night made us very welcome, but it still feels uncomfortable if you know what I mean. All we have are some clothes and a suitcase :( not a nice feeling.

You'll be fine - really you will, but the only thing I want to know is how much does a person have to go through before they realise their dream ??

Just think, by the time we see you on the 18th, all your problems will be sorted and you'll be feeling fine again. Honest !!

Chin up......your nearly there......... :exit

Oh dear. Wendy reckoned it was borderline when I spoke to her on Sunday. Our packers come the day after tomorrow and I've a feeling we'll be in a similar situation! Let's hope they can do you a deal.

We'll have a few drinks in Singapore when all this hassle is over!! Try and keep calm!

Hang on there Dazza, what did they qoute when they came to size up what you were taking, did they say it would all fit in a 20 footer, or did they mention a 40 footer? If they qouted a 20ft then its their mistake and surely you have them by the you know what's!! Don't let them ride over you. We are just about to have a go at ours, due to there being mould on the 3 piece suite. They are trying a fast one too, but as they ordered a reefer and we ended up with a bog standard container then i think we are about to argue the toss.

Well another quick update,

It has just cost us another £650 (200 cubic ft)to ship the rest of our goods, they wanted £800 at first  . I am not a very happy bunny at the moment, we could have got a 40ft for the extra money it has cost us.

I personally would NOT recommend GB liners, it seems that after speaking to one of the packers at our house the other day, this happens quite alot with them. Just the opposite from what the GB manager told us.

Wendy spoke to John masons just to see how much they would ship it for, the chap was very helpful after Wendy explained the situation. He said that if it would have happened to them they would have only charged £450.

Baaaaaaaaaa more stress we didnt need.

Wendy/Dazza

Staying at a friend's house tonight so she's letting me use her computer! The same thing has just happened to us. It won't all fit on and they're going to charge us £800 for an extra 150 cubic feet!! Stress or what!!?? We don't need it either.

I've got my mobile switched on - is that where Wendy's been trying me? I've got Alex to bed now so I should hear it if it rings! Off for a glass of wine - what an awful day it's been!!

Just reading up on this thread - great news that you're all sorted but what a shame about the packing! If you're anything like us all the good intentions of throwing away all the rubbish went out of the window and I know that when we unpack there will be pieces of paper and broken toys that have got in with everything!!

Hope things pick up 'cos guess what you're actually going! Maybe we'll meet up on the other side!

Big hugs to you all

I don't understand, how come that you have to pay for the extra container space when the moving company made the mistake in their estimate?

I don't understand, how come that you have to pay for the extra container space when the moving company made the mistake in their estimate?

Basically because they can, they wont admit its there mistake. They know you have no more time to sort anything else out, so its either they return the rest of your gear or you pay the extra. I think its a bit of scam they have running as this has happened to K&CS(maybe my minds running away with me :D )Give you a cheap quote, then make there money by doing this.

My only piece of advice I would give, make sure that they take a full and I mean full inventory of every item and not a general one. Remember you are there customer and you are paying for there service so get your monies worth as its not cheap.

Hi guys, just managed to catch up on this thread. Isn't it awful!! I will endeavour to keep tabs on the guy when we eventually get to that stage. But isn't the visit and "estimate"? Seems to me that the estimators are working to some sort of hidden agenda, and know that once you are the other end of the earth is it quite difficult for you to argue the toss, as others (George M??) found to their peril. Stick with it though, maybe it would have been best to say that you were pulling your business if you could have done.....

See you tomorrow.

Everyone is out to make a buck off you in the emigration game which is why I will not let slip to any house buyer that we are emigrating, no bargaining levers for anyone who would like to try that one.

I had PSS around to quote yesterday and the rep was trying to scare? / warn me about other smaller / less reputable compainies saying that, particularly at this time of yr which is supposedly there quite time, the reps will quote you a low price to get you to go with them and hope that you are moving in the next mth, (or they will ask you outright when you plan to move), rather than having idle crews. If you actually move in the busy time then they will bump your price up any way they can. (Obviously he was implying that PSS wouldn't dream of this.....ha). He warned me to get a re-quote if we moved after easter to be on the safe side. He had already discussed the price increases in March these are apparently industry wide.
It's begining to feel like I'm entrusting my worldly good to a bunch of cowboys.

Based on all the threads, I am a bit worried that some movers quote for a 20' container when a 40' container is perhaps needed? - Just to win the business?

My other worry is going with the smaller suppliers, in that all they do is the packing and sub-contract allot of the work?

If my stuff ends up in New Zealand goosed, who do I deal with? The UK Shipper, the intermediary, or the NZ end-point?

Also, how do I deal with temporary storage in NZ, I have no idea upfront how much they will cost?

Is it a question of comparing apples and pears?

My hope is that I can go with Crown, they manage the relocation from the NZ end.

My future employer has asked me to get three quotes, but I have decided only to choose companies that have NZ representation and can provide an end to end service.

I have told all of them that I want to take my car, so that forces them all into 40' mode. (Crown told me I needed 40' regardless of whether I take the car or not).

At the end of the day, I want some leverage against the shipper in case something goes wrong.

Some suppliers may quote insurance as a value that you decide? as a percentage of value - I found this a little strange.

In summary, I will stick with big suppliers that can provide an end to end service, with NZ representation.

Sad to here about some of the other stories, just wondering if the mover had quoted for a corporate move, and extra capacity was required? - who would be holding the bag?

One supplier told me it would be 1 day to pack, crown told me 4 days ( I do not want to pack myself).

At the moment, I am hoping I can go with Crown - though not guaranteed.

Based on what I have read here, it is not just a question of the bottom line amount, and we really are comparing Apples & Pears.

Hearing the rip-off's about reefers and Maff fees sneds me further towards a company that is reputable and has NZ representation (though it sounds like there are alot of crooks there too).

For those who are funding it themselves it must be a stressful and agonising decision.
