Hi all,

I hail from Manchester and I met my kiwi wife in Auckland whilst on my 2 year WHV visits to Oz and NZ (and trips to SE Asia and Japan for the world cup) back in 2001/2002. Shortly after that my OH followed me upto the UK, we spent 1 year in Dublin, Ireland (she'd already done her WHV for UK before meeting me so the nearest place to UK we could live and work together was Ireland. Fast forward 2 years after getting wed in Santorini,Greece , moving back to the UK and also having our first child who is now 7 months old(pictured).

Its been a busy few years from meeting to present day.

Our plan is to move to Auckland sometime this year , from July onwards (or Napier - a smaller chance of this happening as the house prices are comparable with most areas of auckland but there arent as many jobs and from what ive seen upto now, not as well paid either), renting a small place, finding jobs and childcare that wont cost the earth (an oxymoron perhaps). Wont think about buying a house till the above has been done and the exchange rate hopefully improves some more. We dont own any property presently so we will be going down just with what we have saved up. (maybe GBP30K by time we leave)

I'm just waiting for my blood test results (after finding out that my original paperwork submitted was written on an out of date set of forms) to come back before sending the results down to London.

Once I have a visa, then we have to apply for our daughter to get NZ Citizenship and then a NZ Passport (she has UK one presently) as I was told by NZIS that she wont be allowed into the country unless she has a return ticket. Thought it would be a good idea to get fleeced (no pun intended) one more time (oops forgot about the forthcoming migrant levy) and get her sorted as shes a bit young to start travelling on her own.

Anyway - thats all for now. Hope to exchange/extract information soon

:cheers

Welcome to the forum, hope it works out, sounds complicated (really surprised about your daughter needing a return ticket, mum being from NZ an all)

Again hope it goes well

Good luck with everything. Napier is so lovely, don't blame you if you end up there.

Welcome Treen 74!! Hope your plans work out.

Just incase you're interested. In the NW of England we've been having fairly regular meetings every 6 weeks or so, since Oct'04. This gives you a chance to meet many other 'forumites' from the NW region. Our next meeting is scheduled for Sat 18th Feb, at the Mascrat Manor pub/restaurant (J21 M6). There is a seperate thread within the meeting / get together section. Maybe see you there.

Hi Treen

Welcome to the site, hope you find it useful. I'm glad they told you about the baby needing a return ticket - we came out in 2004, OH is a kiwi, got PR visas for myself and my eldest daughter and at th etime of applying was pregnant with my second, obviously couldn't apply for PR for her and was told by NZ house in london no worries, jst get it out there. Nuuh-nuuh - got to heathrow and the woman at the check in counter said that unless we bought a return ticket, the 4 month old baby would be denied entry into NZ. Thanks NZ house!! They did refund us the ticket once we proved that she had Citizenship by Descent. If you're trying to cut back on a bit of the stress of getting out of the uk, this might be the area to do it - you can always get a passport and citizenship once you're here and as she's only a baby the return air fare won't be megabucks and you *may* (you'd have to check) be entitled to a refund on the return fare. Just a thought - we found it very easy and very prompt to get the Citizenship by Descent over here , it took less than a week.

Anyhoo! Good luck with all your plans, hope it goes smoothly for you, and Auckland is a fab place to live - don't let those Auckland-bashers over at UK2NZ put you off lol!

Welcome to the forum!
I would definitely recommend getting your daughter's NZ passport before you travel. I applied for my (half American, half kiwi) son's citizenship and passport by mail from here (USA) and it was very easy and fast and not particularly expensive. If you have all the proper documentation before you get to the airport, it makes life much easier for everyone and one less thing for you to worry about.

A few people have come across this before, you don't need a return ticket. You need a outbound ticket from NZ. Not the same thign at all. A $99 one way to melbourne that you can refund later will do.

Cheers everyone. Im the sort of guy who likes to get as much done as early as possible in order to avoid any potential future problems.

First things first though - have to wait for my bloods and then visa...........
