 Hi,
Hi,I was just wonderin if any of you folks have moved to NZ with a special needs child???We are going to Bay of Plenty in June and I dont know where to begin...I think that I visit schools of my choice and enroll all my girls and just discuss with the school how to set up support in place? It would be good to know how anyone else went about this.I am also going to contact the min of education.Any input greatly appreciated :nice1

hello
I was browsing the internet and happened across this site, "Parent to Parent", it's an organization in NZ for parents of children with special needs.

I hope this helps.

I've done a bit of research as I'm a speech therapist who works with children with special needs... different point of view, but I too am trying to learn about the educational system. I did visit one special school when I was last in NZ and was very impressed. Not a wide sample, but hey, it made my day!
Here is a site that may be useful for finding phone numbers/websites for schools: http://www.tki.org.nz/e/schools/
you can search for special schools, and even if that is not what your family is looking for, some of the schools may have information for parents regarding special education.

explains the IEP process in NZ a bit... don't know where you hail from, but it seems somewhat similiar to the American IEP, although there were somethings I really liked about the NZ form (having never used them of course ;) )
