OH and I had our medicals yesterday, and I had a surprise to find out that I have an overactive thyroid. So more tests to come next week, but hopefully we'll get it sorted and all will be ok. Trying not to freak out too much about, but it was a surprise since I thought I was nice and fit.

In searching the forum for help on the issue, I noticed that last year's posts referred to immunizations that were required along with the medical. I don't see anything about that in the medical forms that we received. Have they dropped this requirement?

Hi tigerlily

it's a bit of a shock isn't it, especially when you feel well!? My best friend was recently diagnosed with an overactive thyroid & we couldn't believe it as she didn't really suffer any of the symptons! sorry to hear your news & please let us know how things go.

We had our medicals last year & even though the immunisations where listed as a requirement our doc just left that part blank & it didn't cause any problems! However, he did suggest that our tetnus was up to date. (i'd even written down all our immunisation dates on a scrap of paper & he didn't want to see them! :no )

Take care

One of the advantages of a medical is that long term conditions can be identified and treated.

Sometimes we have a malaise but cannot explain the cause of it.

An over active thyroid can lead to various symptoms and ruin a persons basic quality of life.

It is also something that can be so easly and simpily treated.

So who knows, given that they have detected it, after treatment you will feel so much better.

Just think, if you were not doing this, they may have never have identified it.

Every cloud has a silver lining - good luck with it.

When we had our meds last August, we had to take copies from our GP of all the children's immunisation histories. There was no charge for this. The doc DID ask for them. That's all I can offer, I'm afraid!

I know how you feel, I had my medicals in Jan and I discovered I have anaemia. Total shock for a few days, followed by denail and finally acceptance.

It didn't stop my application and it shouldn't stop yours.

I didn't see anything about immunisations either, so have done nothing about them, I guess I'd better check with our case officer.

Good luck!

Just to update-
good news on the thyroid. It is overactive, but won't need surgery, it's just Graves Disease, can be treated with medication. So should not hold up our application too much.
