When we arrive we won't have access to our computer which will be about 4 months away dependant on travel plans. How can I get to emails easily is it internet cafes (if so what cost) or can you go to library for free??

Thanks Steve :nice1

Plenty of Internet cafes

In Wellington I paid between $0.50 and $2.50 an hour, there does seem to be competition.

Free access in Aukland Airport.

Even out in the sticks access to the Internet was possible.

Did not find any open late in the evening.

If you have a laptop and a wireless card there are also many hotspots around coffee shops etc.

Not sure about libraries, but I assume so.

Thanks Rabbit

Excuse my ignorance do you pay for wireless hot spot access or is it free (was thinking of buying lap top with WI FI but didn't know if it would be of any great advantage)

Cafe net you have to pay for ( unless you can piggy back a neighbour's unsecured)

If you have an existing laptop that is not wi-fi enabled then you can buy a wi-fi card in Tesco for under £30.

I took my laptop with me, but did not use it as access in Internet Cafe places was so easy and accessable.

Who wants to carry a laptop about on a nice warm sunny day?

I needed to check my e-mail everyday as I had a UK and an NZ job offer going on at the same time.

The cost at my local libary in Auckland is $1 for 30 minutes .

Found this out after I managed a week waiting for our internet connection to be connected in our rental :(

For those out of the know, Telecom is the ISP monopoly here in New Zealand. And it doesn't have a 'wonderful' reputation here (Helen Clark, the PM, has moved to break it up, recently).

At least in Auckland libraries, Telecom "managed" to get the contract for the wi-fi hotspots. It's not cheap, either... $9.95 per hour. A month's home subscription is $39.95.The kicker is, if you are already a broadband customer of thiers it's free inside the libraries.

Mabye I am a bit off the mark here, but I find it a little objectionable that a private (monopolized) company is charging a lot of money for Internet service in PUBLIC LIBRARIES, and furthermore using a government/public building to strongly encourage their home subscription. Not trying to start a debate, just adding my 2c.
