I'm trying to work out if current employment in the UK is a) on the future growth area list and b) ion the absolute skills shortage list.

In regards to a) I am riight in assuming that " information communications technology" mentioned in the NZIS Operations Manual is the same as IT/Computing?

In regards to b) I am backline support engineer who deals with Internet services such as web servers, email servers, proxy servers, etc. mostly in a Unix (Solaris) enviironment so I also have pretty good Unix SA skillls. I have been working in this field for over 10 years. All this seems to suggest my job code should be Website administrator/Systems administrator (21313) which is the same code as for Systems Manager whhich is is on the shortage list. However I'm not a Systems Manager and my current job doesn't match the task list for 21313 in the Statistics NZ Standard Classifcation of Occupations).

Does anyone know if my jobs sounds like it is on the shortage list and how I would confirm this before submitting an EOI? Basically it means the difference between myself and my partner (she will be hopefully graduating as a radiographer next year) receiving 140 points without a job offer instead of 115.

Rgds.,
Nick.

I think that you are pretty safe saying that your skills are on the list. I am a software Developer here in the UK, and found the classification was a bit simplistic. So I just picked one that was the best fit.

I am not sure that the people at NZIS understand the differences in IT professions anyway.

100% certain your job is covered, just pop it down as described.

Thanks for the replies guys you have put my mind at ease. *:)

We won't be able to apply until July at the earliest (to meet the 12 months living together rule) so hopefully there won't be any changes to the absolute shortage skills list before then.

Rgds.,
Nick.
