I will be arriving late in March, to take up a position as a Building Consents officer. I just wondeered if there is anyone working in the Building Control profession, about to do the same, or already doing it. Any last minute tips or advice? :cheers Martin.

Yeah be nice to the punters.....We've just gone through all sorts of hoops and thousands of extra dollars to open a backpackers here the conditions including putting in full disabled facilities.

Hi Martin,

not in building control but I am a former planner and still working with local government here in NZ. I've found that people have been really friendly and helpful - within the councils at least. The key pieces of legislation for you will be the new Building Act 2004 and the Resource Management Act... lots of reading ahead!! But I wouldn't worry about that until you get here. If you have already worked for LG in the UK you will find it very similar I think.
