Hi all,

I wondered if anyone can advise me on this. I'm due to be working in NZ before my family come out; they'll stay in UK until our house is sold. The house is in my wife and my joint names. What do we need to do to enable my wife to deal with the house sale legalities and signing without me present? Will she need something like power of attorney? Alternatively can a house sale be transacted with both of us in different countries?

Grateful for any advice or experiences please, otherwise it's an, (expensive), trip to a solicitor.

Thanks,

John

Hi

A power of attorney in favour of your wife would do it. I sold my property whilst in NZ with my mother acting as power of attorney and had no probs whatsoever.

We did the same with our solicitor (a family friend) having power of attorney for me. The other option was for the documents to cirucmnavigate the globe with all the time implications that has.
