Just wondering of those people going through or have done the process of moving to New Zealand.

a) Are you absolutely sure you want to go?

b) Not Sure? - have some doubts

c) Blowing hot and cold?

d) All ready done it and loving it?

e) Done it and regret it?

WE are also absolutely SURE we want to go, think it will be the best thing for us in the long run. Obviously will find it difficult to leave the folks and sell my horse but can't wait to get there now!

My initial answer is D - but can I throw in abit of B and C too?

Loving it here - this is a great country but I can't think of it as a long term destination. For the here and now it's just what we want but I doubt I'll grow old here.

Who knows how I'll feel further down the line.

A, B and C for us! Every day brings a new thought, a new peoblem, or a new insight.

We wobble every week, but our weeks of A outweigh our weeks of B so that's okay ;)

One of the better quotes on these forums has always stuck with us "Don't forget, the airport has a Departure Lounge, as well as an Arrivals Gate".

Aydon - I think I can lay claim to that quote, it's what my husband said to me all through the immigration process - and still says it to me now. It's a very comforting thought to keep in mind and it works !!!

I have A B & C moments.
I don't ever realy contemtplate not going,(so I guess that says a lot) but I have days I wake up possitive its the best thing ever and go to bed with doubts and mornings I wake with doubt and go to bed possitive.
At the moment, with the wrangling between OH and estate agents I just spent my time looking for some anti-acids and for a decision to be agreed.
(There has to be an easier way to sell houses )

we are just about to go, final stages of packing up. I will say that once we exchanged contracts on the house it seemed so final, but we are all positive and definately feel its the right thing for us, like others have said before it will not be the end of the world if we decide its not for us, better that than staying here and thinking 'if only we had given it ago', so thumbs up and away we go :clap :clap
Hopefully see everyone the other side

Oh God - B & C always. And presumably so are you from asking that question? Any obvious problems for you to worry about or just the usual' its scary, what if I'm homesick, guilt at leaving relatives etc etc'

I have been feeling A & B & C for a few weeks now.

A few reasons, in that it it is 80% certain we are going, subject to the outcome of my spouses job application (I allready have a job offer) and the Vet saying the dog is not too old or unfit to travel.

We are having to do alot of things up front e.g. EOI (submitted today), Medical (awaiting results), Vetinary (awaiting results), Shippers (awaiting quotes) etc, yet it is not 100% confirmed yet that we are actually going - (or indeed can go) though we could (and probably will be) there in six weeks time.

With all the lead-in times and the complexity of shipping the pampered pooch, finding appropriate temporary accommodation when we get there, getting the house ready to rent, and deciding what to do with Cars etc, work visas/permits, all the logistics, uncertainty, and costs do make me wobble on occasion.

I don't mind being on the ship or the shore, it is the bit in the middle I am not too keen on - though I do tend to stay calm in a crisis.

That describes my feelings as well- I am feeling overwhelmed at the thought of all the costs & complexities involved in trying to sell our house & car, move our dogs, ship our belongings and have it all time out evenly!

We visited NZ for a 2-week vacation in 2004 but didn't think about moving there until last spring when my OH thought he was going to be out of work soon & finding more work likely meant a long commute or moving to another city. Also after the US elections we were feeling frustrated and I was willing to consider moving out of the country for the first time (my OH has lived overseas before & is more adventurous than I am - moving from a small midwestern town to the west coast was as far as I ever thought I'd go!)

We got PR in Dec. & we're doing a week trip to Wellington in a couple months to see if there really is as much IT work as it seems from the shortage lists, if we can still afford a house we'd want, & also generally does it feel like someplace we'd want to settle for at least 3-5 years. At the worst, we'll have a nice vacation & at best we'll come back and put the house up for sale!

Hi Jen

sounds like similar circumstances, there are plenty of IT jobs in Wellington and the lure of a short commute is very attractive I am sure for many. Being home at 6pm every night, after 30 years hitting the road, travelling and living in hotels, not sure how I will handle all the free time - but it is a big part of my reason to go to NZ.

Once an offer is made, they like people to move very quickly, so hence best to do as much up-front as you can without burning to many bridges.

I was hoping I could head out first and get things sorted before the rest of the family arrived, but the window of time is getting compressed because of the complications of trying to align two seperate job applications and the date of arrival.

Sometimes it is about comparing and weighing up options - not easy, as there are often no silver bullets.

Good luck with your inspection trip.

I have only been here for about 5 days. Yesterday was the first day I really had a moment of regret. I started to ask questions like....

Was it so bad in the US?

What exactly did I leave for?

How come everything cost so much?

Is there still time to make a u-turn?

Then today I found a house I love, started to really take in some of the local cafe's and settle in a bit. Before I left I think I was an A.

On another note I never realized how much my dog meant to me. I cried yesterday as I think of him in a kennel while the OH and I find a home for him to join us. I really wish I had found a palce to settle first.

Having an A-B-C cycle as of the moment. I was a definite YES for the past year while hubby wanted us to take it slow and think about it some more. Then just this month I lost my momentum and I don't know what triggered this. There are days when little things pop up and I wonder if we will cope in NZ, and there are days when I feel that NZ will be like a dream come true. I'm going crazzy with all this thinking gaaaaaa... :wah

A mostly 95%
C 5% usually when Rachel and Cole are round - then the tears start to form!

But I know they plan on following us, and i had my first MSN Video link with Cole and Grand BoB!! when I was at work yesterday, so I know I can 'see' him every day if I want to and talk to Rach as much as we want for free.

So in the end its a definate AAAAAA all the way.....Kat :cheers

Theres a lot to be said for the lack of E's, dont you think ?

Or maybe no-one is admitting to it........Mmmmmmmmm??

Personally, we are A, but with the occasional B thrown in on a bad day.
