the case officer told Greg that it was unlikely we'd be declined but they would be deciding between a three month work visa and PR. Has this happened to any one out there?

They said exactly that to me after my interview with them too and then a week later we were given our PR! I don't think it is anything to worry about, sounds as though you are well on track to get your PR. GOOD LUCK!

I was told the same. They said probably would get a years WTR visa and then was given PR.

They say it just so you grow another stomach ulcer while waiting for their decision. :D

I guess they play safe really, just incase............ well I really don't know the reason, they must decide at some stage and why not then?

WE were told the same and got PR.
I asked the agent managing our application what this was about and was told it's because the case officer has to get everyone signed off by their manager. Standard practice nothing to worry about.
