We are about to complete our EOI and feeling a little nervous about it as it's taking our thoughts that one step further.

I think this forum is brilliant with tons of very useful information, which we've read quite a bit, but if anyone has any advice for a couple of "newies" to this we'd be more than happy to hear it.

We did wonder if we should apply as single or as a partnership (we are engaged) and from what we have read the partnership status seems to be the best way.

It's only by posting on this forum that we are applying now as we thought we had to apply in the new year if we wanted to move around Aug/Sept 05... what little we know !!

Wish us luck and we will keep you informed how we get on.

Thank you all for your good luck posts, we're just deliberating over our "partner status" - we might make a phone call next week to confirm for sure as it's a little confusing.

Providing we get through we will post our findings here.

Thanks again

Hi Keith & Debby

We're (Barry & I) engaged and applied as de facto partners on the EOI (that we submitted in March/April this year). This meant that we could put Barry on as the principal applicant (electrician with a job offer) and that I could go on as the second applicant (using my degree for a few extra points).

I think it makes sense for you (if you are applying in the Skilled Migrant Category) to apply in the same manner, as then you only have the one application to process (so only one set of fees - apart from the Migrant Levy fee where each individual on the application has to pay). If you're worried about proving the relationship, don't be. We showed tenancy agreements and council tax bills in joint names to prove our relationship, and it was all very straightforward.

A word of warning though......APPLY NOW!! It could take a long time to get the PR in your passports. As I said, we applied in March/April and were then selected almost straightaway, but it has taken until now to get all the paperwork sorted, and it will take another 4wks or so to get the stamp (?) in our passport. So it will be about 8 months in all - although we had some hiccups with medicals/EWRB registration to overcome. You've still got 12months to move to NZ after you get PR.

Good luck, and hope this info helps.

Haydee
n.b. I'm only new here myself and have found that this is a great site for info - THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR POSTS

Not so sure about each applicant having to pay the migrant levy. We only paid one levy on my application, with my partner included.
