After three and a half years here I actually got round to taking off the packet of bolts tied to some dismantled bunk beds in the garage yesterday. (Yeh, yeh - we've been so busy etc etc).
ALL 16 BOLTS WERE THERE :clap .
BUT ALL 16 NUTS WERE MISSING :wah .
The shysters must have ditched them, pocketed them or packed them with something else that we've still not opened. How can they be so incompetent? Or so bloody minded?
Now everybody, repeat after me:
Pickfords are rubbish, Pickfords are rubbish, Pickfords are rubbish...
(Hope no one has their stuff on route with these cowboys).

Sorry to hear George you have lost your nuts hehehe
If ya need any bringing over give us a shout. A quick question.... we will be staying in Sumner for about 4 weeks, in a holiday apartment on Wiggins street. Which is the best/nearest supermarket to get some provisions from??
Cheers.

Sorry to hear George you have lost your nuts hehehe.Suppose I set myself up for that one! But if I ever get to see the guy who packed that room (and caused a myriad of other problems) again it'll be his nuts that are on the line...
A quick question.... we will be staying in Sumner for about 4 weeks, in a holiday apartment on Wiggins street. Which is the best/nearest supermarket to get some provisions from??Very nearby is the local SuperValue - a bit like a local Spar (albeit a bit on the bigger side than most Spars I knew of). As Moorf says, neither Super nor Value, but fairly ok if you've forgotten something and don't want to go a distance. Opens till 8pm most evenings (6pm I think on Sundays).
Next nearest is a New World in Redcliffs - probably the smallest New World in Chch and a bit pokey, but still ok if you're stuck for something.
Next furthest (probably about 5 to 10 mins in the car from Sumner) is Woolies in Ferrymead - voted the best supermarket in Chch it's quite large and has a good range of things. But tends to be on the pricey side as far as the big supermarkets go.
From there on there are numerous other large supermarkets within a further 10 to 15 mins each with their own flavour, pluses and minuses. Someone claimed that Chch has the most supermarkets per head of population of anywhere in Australasia.

yeah george (same happened to me once - but it was the gadgets that you held the two beds together with.....its annoying when that happens isnt it. (although it wasnt the removals firm as we have never used one in our life) nah my OH put them somewhere safe! And this is why picking a removals firm is soooo scary! specially after reading some of the posts here
....you could always shout out the size and ask for someone to bring over a bag of nuts!..Dazza.....?

Yep not a problem. Thanks - I'll check out Mitre 10 and Bunnings to see if they're available here (I think that they're pretty standard stuff) and if not I'll take you up on your offer.
It's not much use having a bed when you've lost your nuts...

So can someone tell me how to watch all of the guys all of the time. I'm under the impression that you have to leave em to it, but i'm really nervous reading this. I feel like i'll have to plant a member of the family in each room with a packer.
Can you take things apart yourself so they don't have to?

Our crew had a "bits" box that had all the nuts and bolts in..., you could maybe ask them to do that, at least you know where they all are!

We had Pickfords to pack our stuff and they where excellent :nice1
We kept our little bedroom full of all the stuff we didnt want packed and just left them to it. We dismantled the beds etc ourselves (as requested by Pickfords) and put all the nuts and bolt in a bag and attached them to one of the bed posts.
When our stuff arrived everything was there (except one item which followed the next day). We were very impressed both in the UK and when it arrived in NZ.
Sorry but :nice1 for Pickfords for us.

Jules, why did they want you to dismantle the beds yourselves? I've never heard of that. Our packers arrive tomorrow and I'm hoping to be able to just leave them to get on with it...

JulesThey specifically told us not to pack anything - that it wouldn't be covered by insurance unless packed by one of their 'professionals'.
This included my offer to pack computers / printers / screens etc in their original boxes. Their professional job consisted of putting the equipment in the box (without the specially shaped protective polystyrene), then breaking the said polystyrene to bits and wedging it in the boxes to try to stop the items from moving too much.
Obviously the guys who did you hadn't been to the special Pickfords Academy of Customer Care like our's had.
