Hi everyone, newbie here :)

My husband and I have just started filling out the EOI and it is getting a bit confusing and frustrating.

Right now we're stuck on this question if Jim (who's the principal applicant) has been convicted of traffic offences of dangerous driving etc. etc. Jim had a couple of tickets on reckless driving (illegal turn, swerving). CONVICTED sounds pretty strong and I'm inclined to think that this only concerns major offenses that were taken to court and doesn't include the normal tickets given by the highway patrol???

Would really appreciate anyone's input on this so we can finish this darn EOI.

I get so excited when I read about stories of people who made it. But right now for us, the New Zealand dream seems so far away :(

Regards, Alma

Were they just the fixed penalty points?

Sorry, just realised you aren't from the UK. I think it only counts if you have been taken to court for serious offences. I have points for speeding and they didn't count. I'm sure there is a thread on here about it somewhere.

is this the thread? http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3895&page=2&pp=10&highlight=convictions

It is about the UK but I'm sure the same criteria apply for NZIS?

I got stuck on that question and had to re-send those pages of my application, see this post http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=5365

I think it's worded badly, but it generally has to do with drink driving and dangerous driving. This is the exact question:Have you been convicted of an offence (including a traffic offence) committed within the last five years, involving dangerous driving, driving having consumed excessive alcohol (including drunk driving and driving with a blood or breath alcohol content in excess of a specified limit) or driving having consumed drugs.I don't know if reckless driving could be termed as dangerous driving, your best bet is to check with NZIS as it's a very grey area.

Thanks everyone for helping out. I just might write to NZIS later just to be sure but at least I'm now 95% that it doesn't count. And I have to admit that I ticked the box...teehee!

Would have thought dangerous driving would have been a pre-requisite to drive on the NZ roads :laugh

I don't think it will stop you from being accepted, they just want to know, and it will show on your police certificate, as long as you explain they are o.k. After all, we are all entitled to pay the cost, accept the punishment and carry on with our lives aren't we?

Good luck

Steve
