Hi all, our first post. My wife and I have decided to try and uproot our family from Liverpool for a new life in NZ. Children 9 and 6. Got a friend in Welly who says we will never regret it. What is it about life in the UK that makes everybody wish you all the best of luck in getting out of the country??? :?
Going for the SMC - telecomms engineer of some 16 years experience. What are the job prospects like out there? What salary can I expect? What sort of home can that provide us with?
So many questions, so few answers. Enjoying reading all your comments and experiences.
Good luck to all. Just trying to get the cash for our EOI, because believe it or not, not everyone in the UK lives in a mansion and drinks champagne for breakfast!

Welcome to the forum. Wish I could help you more with your questions .... it all depends on where you're going to live, will you both work etc.
You will find all your answers on this forum - just ask away - no question is too silly. All of us had to start our immigration process with the first step (whichever route we're taking). I can asure you it won't be long before you'll be able to answer questions from new members too.
Good luck.

Thanks Diny and Radders, and thank you for you nice welcome. We have been looking for a couple of years, but with family to think about, it tended to get brushed under the carpet. Things started to move earlier in the year, and I (Steve) get over the maginc 100 points mark, so we thought "what the hell" :?
So now with the EOI filled in, it's time to get on the rollercoaster, and hopefully get notification in enought time to offload the house while uk house prices are ridiculously high :nice1
Catch ya soon
:cheers

Welcome Steve & Jan :nice1
Take out a few hours and read through the many threads on this site. You're likely to find that many of your questions have already been asked / answered previously.
Suggest submitting your EOI asap, whilst the selection points are still very low (have been 100pts for a while now).
Keep an eye out on the forum for our next 'NorthWest' meet. There was a get together last Saturday in Stretton (Warrington) which was a great opportunity to meet many fellow forum members with similar plans.
We're only in Winsford, so let us know if you're ever over this way.
Best of luck
Babette :nice1

Welcome Steve and Jan,
Ali and I are just down the road and I work in Lpool! :P
We are going in Dec and Immigration say because I've Got a job and meds etc sorted that PR will be processed relatively quickly so ( I noticed your other thread about visas) it may be an idea to try for PR and if it isn't here by xmas get a visa - apparently they can be issued within days !(According to other threads I've read)
BUT it is not cheap :eek
We have to send our ITA and for residency and migrant levvy it costs about £900 not to mention the cost of EOi = £150 and then meds = £369 then police checks £20 then other stuff for registering my qualifications £200 so if cash flow is a problem do it when you get over there
there are a few options and if you trawl the forum all your questions could be answered - Happy trawling.
It would be nice to see you at the next NW meet and Kim40 will hopefully have it organised soon!!
Love
