We are in the process of completing our EoI. I/We have 135 points, but will get more if we wait for my qualification to be "recognised". Is it worth waiting or should I just submit?
We have no real hurry but I would like to get the ball rolling v soon. Waiting (4/5/6 weeks?) for NZQRS seems a bit long.
The NZIS newsletter seemed to indicate that most of the applicants invited to apply for residency for last month had point scores over 140.
Any thoughts from anyone?
Cheers

I think it's best to wait for your qualification to get the mark of 140 points. Why risk not being selected?

Thanks,
Yes you're right....the penny is just starting to drop with this points thing! Up until a couple of days ago, my reading of the situation was that 100 points was enough (it still says that on the NZIS website), but I'm now reading that 140 is the for sure minimum. As ever I find the answers after posting a query!
Thanks for the help :cheers ...we will get there in the end - I promised the kids Christmas on the beach (whatever the weather! :laugh )

Hi Firstkings and welcome to the forum.
I agree with Nienke. If you can wait a few weeks and then get 140 points plus, well I believe that that guarantees you automatic selection. Hope I'm right !?
I usually find answers to my queries after I've posted too, so that makes two of us !

Firstkings,
If it were me - id be keeping a VERY close eye on the numbers and especially the "Lastes Skilled Migrant EOI factsheet"
This is where it tells you how many EOIs are selected with the various points levels.
So in the last draw on the 1st Feb (shouldnt there have been another one by now?) - 1000 eoi's were selected but 145 of those (14%!) had points below 140, and 90 of those didnt have job offers! (The points scoring has changed but when we came through you couldnt get to 140 without a job offer).
Also worth bearing in mind that even after more than a month of no daws from the pool - "Only" 1000 Eois were selected - which is actually not that many - they were drawing nearly 800 a fortnight prior to the changes.
What this means in practice - is that there is a good chance with 135 points that they aint going turn you down! Look at where those points are for - are you in the skills shortage areas? I mean - 135 points without a job offer is impressive!
So I would watch closely the next draw or 2, and if NZQA are dragging thier heels - you can make a decision based on the numbers you are seeing.
We actuualy had a spreadsheet (cos im a bit like that) when the SMC opened and listed the numbers - and watched as it slowly crawled to our points level (130).
I know thats a different view of things - but its something to think about - even if you dont do it!
Good luck
