Hello Everybody i,ve been reading all the problems /rip offs people are having to deal with . We are moving to NZ in march and i have booked a shipping company already now i,m getting a bit worried about when it gets to the other side. I will check i,m not getting a reefer container today and what happens if they have estimated wrong and cant get all my stuff in the container but what is the standard MAF charge if everything is ok nothing unusual. Once i have an idea of this any funny business at the other end and the moving company will be having a meeting they wont ever forget. I dont like being parted from my money at the best of times so rip offs definetly get me revving. :)

I'm sure there is not a flat charge, it depends on what they want to look at and if anything needs doing to it, cleaning, destroying, treating for borer etc.

Some people have paid as little as $80 and some as much as $1300 +, but I can't say for certain what the highest or lowest is.

www.maf.govt.nz (http://www.maf.govt.nz) might help.

But just be adamant that you will pay you maf fees directly to them and ask for your effects to be inspected at the house, not the shippers.

Ask for detailed charges before you pay and for an invoice too.

Any questions just shout.

I have been lead to believe that Maf do have a standard set of charges. Im really sorry but I cant honestly remember where I got that info :(

Definately go through the Maf link - and ask them if need be. In most cases - if there is nothing out of the ordinary - expect to pay about $150. May be more if camping equipment is involved for example.

From all ive heard - maf are quite nice to deal with - so any concerns - they are your first call.

Good luck
