So how is this possible to get a job offer without having a work permit? when I have applied several jobs, me and my husband (who is working on IT, which I thought they are wanted) got the same reply, that in order to get a job offer in NZ we should have wp. But as far as I know, to get a wp you must have a job offer
Anybody knows how this thing works? we thought to came to NZ to try to get a job first and then to claim points on our EOI for that, but I'm not sure if it works... :D

This is exactly what we did :raebanana
My hubby is in IT and we came here on tourist visa, found a job, claim EOI points and got our PRs.

Says on the NZIS site that any NZ company can make a job offer even without a WP yet. I suppose a WP is not so much a requirement as it is a preference for a NZ company, coz it shows you've already followed through your intention, all the processing is finished and there's no grey area when you'll be available to take up the position. I think there a lot like Singel here who secured a job first then applied afterwards. Good luck!

This "evil circle" is the same in every country almost! To get a job anywhere, one should have work permit. And to get a work permit, one should have a job. Nevertheless, there are some posts do not requires a work permit as a prerequisit. That is the case with me for example. I have got a job in NZ while I am in Germany and have no WP. I got the work visa accordingly. Maybe my field of work is highly required in NZ, but I believe that some advertisments do not require wp. So You have to go through such advert.

So getting to NZ with a tourist visa (could be 3 months maximum?) can be an option. What do you do once arrived in NZ as tourist and start finding a job? and let's assume we get one, should we get back home and apply again? or there's a way to stay in NZ and apply from there?...
We've applied (especially my hubbi) for many job advertisments but no positive replies, everybody asked us about his visa status :wah
Could someone have something against the fact that we came as tourists and we are looking for a job? Singel, can you tell us your story? would love to hear it... :p
Many thanks...

I think the tourist visa is 6 months, so you can double your time.:D
Many have come over on a tourist visa, got a job, etc from there. You don't have to do a lie detector test at the airport, just have a cheap ticket out of NZ.;)
If you get a job you only have to go back home to apply if you want to, it's easy enough to apply from here and cheaper too. IMO if you are here and willing, employers can see that, rather than wondering if you will actually turn up or having some one in NZ already to fill the post with.
Good luck

It sounds more realistic to come back home and then apply. Is the employer willing to wait for a few months after he made the job offer? I know here in my country employers can hardly wait for 15 days to quit your old job... :D possible.
But if we get a job offer, is there a chance to stay to NZ and do all aplications from there? maybe to apply for wp? hopefully within 6 months immigration office will select us having a job offer... :p plane tickets from here are sooo expensive... :exit (I ask to many questions :D )
Thanks guys!!! you're great!

Monica, I could answer all your questions.
We understand that most of the employers need the candidate to start work as soon as possible. You will be very lucky if an employer could wait for you for a few months. Base on this situation, we pack up (put our household stuff in the container and store it with the moving company), buy one-year* returned tickets and arrive in NZ on tourist visa.
* coincidently, the following year we must fly back for my in-laws wedding anniversary bash
My hubby got a job offer on the 3rd week of arrival and we went to NZIS for work permit so that he could start work. At the same time, we submit the EOI and 4 months later, we got our PRs. We just went to the nearest GP to get our medicals, blood tests and x-rays done, quick and easy. I request the police certificate via the UK police website and receive the report 4 weeks later.
Based on our job searching experience, it is better to apply job directly with the employers http://www.higrowth.co.nz/index.html. We have good responses from employers but we hear nothing from employment agencies.

Singel, thanks so much for your reply!! so it is quite an option to do so...what was the first step you made when you first came to NZ? where did you start looking for a job? internet applications? local newspapers?

Monica, based on our job searching experience, local newspaper is the best. :nice1
However, you still have to cover your bases by going through job website such as : www.seek.co.nz
Good Luck :cheers

Hi, I'm now wondering what in hell I'm doing wrong!
I've been using a few jobs sites but my main one is seek
I have very little feed back from my applications and on the one's I do get its sorry we cant help you without a wp, very depressing :no
Me and my family have been here now just over six months the wife is doing a course and I've been looking round for any job don't care what its is longs it gets us a foot hold to stay in NZ so far Zero
Theirs plenty of jobs about in Auckland you just need to have a wp to get one, catch 22!
