Hi Everyone,

Haven't posted on here for aggggggggeeeeeeee (mainly cause I got in a huff not knowing how to post smilies after the forum layout changed) and thought I'd give you a wee update.

OH and I got married in November and went to NZ as part of our honeymoon. Check out our Blog for a full update www.milliemoomclean.blogspot.com. We had a fantastic time and it was great being able to check out all the places we'd been looking at on the internet.

We decided 100% that Devonport (NS Auckland) is the place for us. Neither of us drive and Devonport has everything you could ask for in walking distance and also a great ferry service for the CBD. OH will learn to drive when we get out there, but neither of us want to live somewhere where we have to rely on a car. Devonport has great beaches and walks, lovely shops, cafes, restaurant and also a large supermarket. There are parks and children's play areas and the housing is predominately old villas, so it has a lovely 'feel' about it. It also has shocking house prices, so we've decided not to move till November, to give us a chance to save more money.

We've booked our flights for 12th November with Air NZ via LAX. We plan to put the house on the market in August and are confident that we'll get an offer within a few weeks. We want to get the shippers in around the begining of October, so we have the camping out stage in Edinburgh rather than NZ. Much easier when you have lots of family and friends to help. We'll keep the cat with us until we move into the airport hotel 2 days before we fly (aim to exchange on Fri 10th Nov..... that's the plan anyhoo LOL) and then Golden Arrow will come to collect her for a wee holiday.

We hope to be in a good rental within 2 weeks of arriving. I have a few contacts, and will be contacting people before we leave the UK.

Well..... that's the plan. Have you stopped laughing yet LOL Yes, I know I try to plan too much....but it's how I cope.

My mum is finally coming to terms with the fact we are leaving. All a bit tricky, but I'm sure everything will be fine in the end.

Anyone else planning the move for November ?

ooohhhh great lots of peeps going the same time.

We've got our PR all sorted. We actually mananged to get a delay in getting our stamps, because we didn't want to activate our PR when we went on honeymoon....if you see what I mean.

Anyone going to the NZ Expo in March ? We thought we'd go and hand OH's CV about. Nothing to do with wanting a wee trip to the big smoke at all!

Welcome back - you've been gone ages. Congrats on the wedding.

Certainly not laughing at your post - good on you for being a planner.

Can I offer just one bit of 'advice' ? It may be a good idea to put the house on the market earlier than you have planned. Speaking from experience (and I know zillions of folks on the forum share these experiences) - house sales never go to plan, they always drag you through so much stress (unless you're blooming lucky). Maybe it would be better to sell asap and then 'camp out' rent somewhere up until you leave. especially seeing as flights have already been booked.

Forgive me if I'm teaching my granny to suck eggs or stepping over the mark, but we had to postpone/re-book flights due to house sale, and re-schedule shipping etc too. It was a major pain in the butt and went a long way to taking the shine off the whole process.

Anyway - good on you, hope all goes well and keep us posted.

Hi Diny,

Thanks for that, I totally know where your coming from. I've been amazed by the horror stories of people selling theeir homes in England. It just seems so unpredictable and to be honest, completely mad. I can't believe that it's not legally binding when you put in an offer on a house ???? In Scotland 9.9/10 if you accept an offer that's that. No messing about. It used to be in this area that you could sell your house in 2-4 weeks. Not so much now, so we're giving a few weeks on the market before setting a closing date. We can always got to 'fixed price' if need be, to hurry things along.

That all said, who knows what will happen 6 months from now. I'm going to keep my fingers (and toes) crossed.

I know something will go wrong with my plans.... sods law... but I'm going to have a plan B, plan C ...... LOL
