I would recommend the Art Deco Shop as a first port of call if you are into that sort of thing. Apart from my own personal ability to spend a fortune on stuff in there - they run a free video about the towns history and the Art Deco movement, and a run through of all the main buildings in the town and the styles they use.

If thats not your cuppa - the museum is wonderful (imho) - particularly a section about the earthquake and the "Survivor stories" which even on a second visit gave me goosebumps.

Also, I surprisingly enjoyed the aquarium - not my usual thing at all but its got one of those travelators that carry round under a perspex ceiling.

I love just wandering round the place! (and spending $$$$ on vintage dresses - kinda guessing you wont be doing that???)

If you want nice relaxing dinner or lunch, Crab Farm winery (lunch) Mission Estate winery, (dinner) or just to have tea and look at the building.
Well there are lots of wineries :raebanana all over the HB.:cheers

Take Five restaurant along the front is good and they have live jazz.

Ocean Beach if you like a drive out and a walk along the beach and a swim. You go past Craggy Ridge winery, which is expensive and always seems to be crowded.

No swimming along Marine Parade I believe because of the rip tides.

If you haven't booked anywhere to stay, pm me, I've got a couple of nice ones.

Hope this helps

A must is lunch at Mission Estate. Just an amazing place with great food and very child friendly, if you've got kids :D

There's a fabulous restaurant on Tennyson Street called Toscana. It's run by a British couple from Basingstoke, UK ! ! Not really for kids although they're welcome, it's a really relaxing eating evening. We had three courses and ended up being there for gone three hours, nothing is rushed like some places we've been to. We said we'd recommend them at every opportunity :nice1

As Avalon said the Aquarium is a great place, quite expensive but you can amble around at your own pace. We were there for feeding time in the main aquarium which was exciting for the kids.

Just walking around the main streets looking at the Art Deco buildings is enough and free to do. Also the wineries are worth a visit. We visited Moana Park and it was great sat outside tasting wine and looking over the vines.

If you haven't got anywhere to stay we recommend Palm City Motor Court, about 15 mins walk from city centre. Lovely accommodation and really quiet place to stay.

We stayed at the Shoreline in December.

They are lovely suites and all very well appointed, shiney clean and new. The people that run it were helpful and it is just a stroll into town.

Have a lovely time. :clap
