Urgh!

Coming out of Kent Police at the start of Jan 2006 I had heard all the stories about the tough physicals and tests you have to do to get in. I thought,
"no worries", I've completed 3 years in Kent and passed the physicals with no problems...how wrong was I! :(

The physical comprises of a 2.4 km run which must be completed in 10 minutes 15 seconds or less, 34 press ups being the minimum, standing jump of 40cm or more, completed an assault course which makes the Kripton Factor look like a day in the park...aswell as complete a swimming certificate, defensive driving course, all this before you join...ssshhhhhh!!!!

Hehe, I shouldn't moan too much though...I'm up with my press ups and have started doing a run every lunchtime so hopefully by test day (t minus 22 March 2006) I should be upto it. Once this has been completed, you get on the waiting list for the Police College in Porirua and with my past experience I hopefully should be on the beat by the end of 2007.

Karen and I are settling in well to Churton Park, just north of Johnsonville, Wellington and neighbours are fab...people who I'm currently temping with at thr Bank of New Zealand are also great and I'm being fed on wonderful new veggies I've never heard of.

Will update when I get more news!!!!

Hi Rich and Karen

Good to hear you are settling in well. :nice1

Not sure about the press up/assault course malarky though, sounds tough to me. Good luck for T day.

A couple of colleagues came over from Surrey Police last year, but they joined before they left the UK, or at least came over for the physical and interview etc then went back, gave notice and came back. Phew!

What are you doing for the bank while you wait?

Hey Rich,

Gosh, you're describing the old style marines training I did with Kent Police back in the 80's.

Four months of hell at Ashford. I still remember those 8 mile log runs up and down the hills at the Warren. As for the swimming, I swear I still have lumps on my knees from the pyramid swimming they used to make us do - one length of pool, get out, one press up, two lengths, two press ups etc etc.

I know they have said in the last ten years the physical side is so much easier - mind you, I'd struggle to do 1 press up at the minute!!!!!

If you want it enough, you'll do it with no trouble.

Hope you are both enjoying life.

Take care!

Hey Richard,

I am really please they want fit policemen and women. One of my mates is a police woman in the UK and I could outrun her any day.

Best of luck.

Good luck on the upcoming tests. I am looking at possibly joining the force once we finally get there at the end of this year hopefully. Could you e-mail me at dirtpig67@yahoo.com - I would like to talk to you about your experiences so far in getting recruited. Thanks

Yup, no doubt about it - you need to be pretty fit and strong to be in the NZ police. Them there speed guns are terribly heavy...
