So many of my friends and family haven't got a clue regarding computers I have had to make my blog open for all! So if anyone is interested....

OK, this is mine, a glimpse of what it is like to live in a rural property in need of some TLC, while waiting for your container to arrive.

Jaycee's blog (http://web.mac.com/jasminenunn/iWeb/piha/Blog/Blog.html)

I have had to warn my friends and family not to judge my house by UK standards ;) I love doing up houses, so this is (a perverse) kind of heaven to me - feel free to disagree... These are of course the "before" photos!

Hi all,

As relationship communication is slowly evolving from visiting or calling each other into reading each other's blog, I too have nurtured a blog to inform our friends of our move to NZ.

From the moment the container was on its way I have written about our personal adventures as well as the oddities we have encountered in NZ. All this through Dutch eyes, so actually some of the oddities might even be from British origin :-)

I tried to keep the posts little witty anecdotes, a smile, a laugh, a recognition, and even some explanation of Dutch culture here and there (as opposed to the NZ culture).

Anyway, if you are interested, have fun reading the blog! If not, have fun doing something else! Either way, have fun!

Cheers,

Erwin.

I started this one a few weeks ago, when it seemed we were close to getting our PR. Well that wasn't quite the case, but nevertheless... it exists out there in the "blogosphere." I'm not much on blogging, so I don't know whether it's worth the effort or not, but I'll give it a shot.

Since we're not in NZ yet, this is also to chronicle our reasons and efforts to get down there. I can also point my family members at it when they ask what's up, why we want to move, etc.

I noticed Moorf's blog and then saw ShakerMike's. Thought it might be nice to have a list of blogs in one place to read up on how folks who are settled in NZ are doing in their new lives. Didn't see a list elsewhere here on the forum, so...

Do you have a blog with details of your new life in NZ that you wouldn't mind sharing? Link to it from here!:nice1

Thanks!

Hi All

I have put a sitemeter on my blog, and tried making it private (but not much luck as then family couldnt get on it in Uk, even though sent them invites).

Today, i checked, and clicked on a 'referral' that took me to www.nzmigrant.blogspot.com

On this blog, i saw my blog listed, as well as a few others i recognised........
such as Suzer's, Moorfs, the Hodges and Willskens.

Am i being paranoid ?

Noone has ever asked me if they can include my blog on theirs ?

We wanted to privatise ours as we have had a few emails (not being nasty or racist) from South Africans and Nigerians that make reference to our blog and asking for money and to sign petitions to get them out of the country - it hasnt been pleasant and hubby is getting his hair off.

Just thought i would let people know that their blog is on there..........

I can see Marcia's blog and lots of others I recognise. There's past forumites blogs on there too.

Oh I miss some of those people, they were good posters. If anyone has a minute, read Chipshakers blog "from Brangy to Rangi" Brilliantly written! :nice1

I wonder where they are now??? :(

It's pretty standard practice for bloggers to have a list of other blogs they read (a blogroll) on their blog, and people don't usually ask before adding blogs to their blogroll. I'd take it as a compliment, but if you are worried then email the site and ask them to remove your blog from their blogroll.

PS it can also be quite useful to set up a separate email account for your blog.

But that's the thing abut blogging- unless you actively make it not, it's 100% public. Blogrolls (lists of blogs the blogger reads) are extremely common and it's not considered bad etiquette to have such a list, quite the opposite.

I appreciate that Lupin, and yes, i admit when i set it all up i was a bit 'green' as to what i was doing.

But, what i am not happy about is people off this forum using my good nature and taking advantage of it!

Sorry, crossed wires!

As i said, i was 'green' when i set the blog up and i have spent ages on here trying to privatise it, but relations in UK were having probs and none of us are computer boffins........ so i had to make public again.

I am just a wee bit p'd off at the emails i had from a forum member that i was genuinely trying to help!

Sorry, not intending to have a dig at you whatsoever.

I really dont want to close my blog down as its an update for my family moreso, so any help would be so much appreciated.

Just remove identifying information (names, work places, home town etc), contact details and make all photos not front on ones and you should be fine :)

Or, if you're really freaked out you could privatise it, but I actually think yours is one of the better blogs in that it's very authentic and you actually have kept it up, so it would be a shame!!!!

I know what it's like to suddenly feel less than comfortable in this situation so hope it can be sorted for you :)

Thanks Lupin!

I try to work so hard at keeping my family uptodate with things happening over here, as as you know from us meeting when we first got here, the break was a lot worse from the family as parents in law had given us such a hard time, it what has upset me a lot that i have to privatise it. I felt happy sharing things with others, but dont like being taken advantage of!

If anyone can help me privatise it, please PM me!

Today, i checked, and clicked on a 'referral' that took me to www.nzmigrant.blogspot.com

I think it belongs to Croft, so if you are concerned, send a PM.

With regard to prevent spam emails - remove any references to email addresses etc - you can always put them in the title bar (click on settings after you have logged in and put your email address in there).

And if anyone wishes stuff to remain private, such as blog and email addresses, then perhaps the forum isn't the best place to post them. Guests to this forum can view all threads except those in the Lounge.

Don't mean this to be taken the wrong way, just trying to help out those I can.

Hi shakyle - just saw your post. I'll take your listing off right now (if you could PM me and let me know which one). That goes for anyone else that doesn't want it listed.

When this thread first started several blogs had all current blogs listed, so I assumed it was OK to list them. My apologies if this is not the case. I go through once in a while to see what people are doing in NZ, and sift out those that haven't been updated in 18 months or so.

I have only just read the last few pages of this thread and decided to check my comments out. Now I have not really updated my blog but found I had six comments 3 of these were complimentary from people on this forum but the other 3 were not very nice at all. One was from someone who wanted a room to use in Auckland and said he did not have much money but could pay in kind. He left a contact but I cannot be bothered with that sort of thing. Another was from someone who saw the photo of our Daughter and wondered if she was up for a one night stand and the other was from someone trying to sell webspace. So I have decided for what little work I have done on it I will get it deleted.I am thinking about transferring our house building thread when it gets going to the Lounge where only members can view.

Sorry to hear that Dave, some people have a nerve!
The thing that annoyed me was i worked hard to keep my blog uptodate fopr family and friends we left behind in the UK, and then people have the ordacity to do this!
I have got over my upset now. Made my feeling clear to the person concerned and those who emailed me personally too.
Things seem to have blown over a bit now!

Absolutely shocked that people are getting E-mails like that - in fact some these may warrant reporting to the police. Totally understand that people are locking them down. Just out of interest, did you select not to publish your e-mail addresses? There's no way of contacting me directly from my blog you see, and I'm always very careful with security online. For example my I tie down a lot of my information on Facebook to friends only, but you have to actively set those settings, they are not on be default which I think they should be.

Well don't use me as the voice of reason, but I have one with blogspot.com. I think most people use it as it is fairly simple (once you play around a bit) and I think it is set as private only, then add/invite friends to view.
Ours is still for us until we get to NZ as it is parts of our story so far, we will add better moments when we arrive and let our family see it then. - don't want them worrying over our problems until all is resolved.

Georgebulldog

I use Wordpress.com.
Chiba from this forum recommended it to me as I wanted to keep mine private as worried about pictures of my daughter & although it took me a bit of playing around with it's worked. I invite people by e mail to join & no one else can look at it, I know a few peopel in the UK have had problems but others have found it easy, funny the ones that found it difficult worked in IT :D
I'm sure I'm not using it right in terms of inviting people to join rather than just look at it but it's working & they have made some changes recently which have made it all easier to use
Good luck & let me know if I can help anymore :cheers

I'm going through the list right now, a lot of good information out there. It's fun learning about New Zealand, but there's a special something about hearing the day to day going on's of somebody who's actually going through it all right now. :nice1

I set up one on livejournal last week. I thought it would be cool and unique to setup a blog about the whole process, from when I first started getting serious about it, through my eventual reccy and, if all goes well, to the actual move and settling in process. Would be good for family and anybody else planning on doing the same thing. Well, guess it's not too unique...but hey, still a cool idea.

might as well post up our blog. it documents everything from putting in the EOI to acceptance and soon to be move to wellington. It's been pretty easy to keep it up to date so far so i don't see any reason for that changing.

I'm looking forward to having new photos for the blog posts from New Zealand :)

Hello,

Me and the family landed in Chch last August and give or take a few weeks I have managed to write a weekly blog laying out every detail from landing, settling, and now living here in New Zealand. I find it great therapy and the family back home have become a little addicted to it, it is a fantastic way of letting everyone know what is happening without leaving people out which can cause grief. I regularly get 60-70 hits a week and as long as people enjoy it then i will write it....check it out...

http://www.getjealous.com/getjealous.php?go=stevied20

Best wishes

Steve

PS: I never really thanked everyone on here for the help prior to arriving in Chch, and once i landed i never really returned to the ENZ, which i always felt a little guilty about, it is a fantastic site and full of excellent info, and i regularly reccommend it to people. So a big thank-you to everyone...

This thread poppin up again has prompted me to re read our blog from start to finish (its not that long). However our NZ trip is still quite upsetting for me as I found myself gently :wah reading it and recalling the emotions that went along with it. Despite that I think blogs are a great idea to capture all those important times.

I'm going through the list right now, a lot of good information out there. It's fun learning about New Zealand, but there's a special something about hearing the day to day going on's of somebody who's actually going through it all right now. :nice1

Hello everybody,
not sure if this is the right category, however, I would like to share a blog about life in AKL/ NZ and a little bit of immigration process/ timings. It might encourage people that don't see a light at the end of the immigration tunnel, or at the same time it might be a good insight about the life in New Zealand (work, life, buying a car, etc).
