Greetings everyone,
I've been reading a lot of posts here over the last few weeks and figured it was time to say hello. My wife April, our three kids (6,3,1.5) and I are moving to Welly in June, although I may come in April-May to secure work (IT), yet from what I've heard that may be a waste of about USD$2500 cause of the need in Welly. So most likely we'll be coming on a holiday and then I'll try to secure a position and apply for residency, right now I only have 120 pts in the smc, so no PR before the move (just taking the big plunge).
-sincerely,
Brian

Welcome! Are you coming from the US? In IT you will not have a problem getting something here, possible it could take a little bit (few weeks) but most people in IT seem to get things in days, probably depends on your area. If you are a datbase person or do IT project management I know of some openings where I work, government.
If you do come over first it could save you some money, if you get a relocation package, that is what happened for us saved us quite a bit. Really depends on your area though and how in demand your skills are. I am not in IT but am in an area where (like a lot of things here) demand exceeds supply.
Lots of good information here about what to expect, it really helps to prepare you.
Good luck on your planning!

Best of luck for the impending move, we are up on the Kapiti Coast although my OH works in Lower Hutt.I work at a local primary school and we have a healthy mix of Kiwis, European , American and English children .It certainly makes the lessons interesting!
Whe you arrive make sure you visit Raumati, Paraparaumu etc as although the travel to Welly is a bit of a pain , as far as lifestyle goes it cannot be beaten!

Thanks for the warm welcome!
Just to give you some more background info and too answer some of your ?'s:we are coming from the US (Michigan, very cold right now) and I've spoken with some recruiters about the likelyhood of me receiving re-location assistance. Although they feel strongly that it will be easy get a position suited to me, the consensus seems to be that you usually have to be a specialist of some sort in it too receive it. As for myself am a level II desktop support tech so I'm not really counting on assistance. We are already selling some items of ours and have just started telling some of our family members the news, --we know how huge of a move this is so we comend all who have made and wish the best to the people trying.
