We got our Census forms yesterday ,to be filled out on March 7th .

The forms can be filled out in English or Maori ,either on paper or on T'internet .

The census is the official count of how many people and dwellings there are in New Zealand ,and it is taken every 5 years.

I got my quill pen out and did it the old fashioned way, it was right exciting to be doing it and included. :D

The census man knocked at the door in the week trying to find the house numbers. He knew mine had been returned, once i pointed out our house number. :p

Deborah

nah what i filled out was the register of electors, forget everything I wrote above, tired girlie.

Just as an aside on this, is there an option to take the t'internet route or paper route before you get the paper? I don't like wastage, and anyone who knows the way your receive multiple copies of your tax credits paperwork in UK, it makes me sick to think of the waste of taxpayers money and damage done to the environment by the sheer amount of paper wasted, the majority of which ends up in the bin (or recycle bag in our case :) ) Just wondering if the NZ government has a slightly more eco friendly view on things like this...

We had person turn up at gate, hand us household form, and one for each occupant then ask would we do it online, and gave us more paperwork.

The online phenomenon has not hit here yet, so many folks would do the paper version, so our four forms will go in the recycle box!

Thanks Sal, that is a shame, maybe in 20-30 years time we'll get around this problem. :)

Did EOI online to save paper and ended up getting printed out anyway and returned to us as our ITA paperwork! Suppose for legal stuff like that though it has to be on hard copy...

Need to sort ourselves out though coz we killing the planet.

Everyone gets a paper form as a fallback in case, for whatever reason, they can't fill out the on-line forms.

The lady came to our door,

asked if I wanted to do it on line, so I said yes, (doing my thing for the environment), logged on using pin thingy to find I also needed the 5 paper forms in order to complete, but she hadn't left them with me.

So I rang said call centre and they were here within the next 2 days.

Filled in on-line no probs.

We arrived here on census day and our form is still untouched. We were planning on saying we didn't arrive until 8 March when someone comes knocking (well, there are 5 of us - that's a lot of form filling). Is that illegal?

Hi Kate

It is compulsory but I can't see what the punishment is :D or how they enforce it.

You can do it online, now you are up and running with the lappy.

Try here http://www.stats.census.govt.nz/default.htm you need a pin number from the census collector but I believe they can give you one if you call the help line.

I did ours online and it took about 20 mins max for all three forms.

I have heard that an extra effort is being made this time to make an example of non-respondants - I think you still have to the end of April to get the forms in before the danger of procescution.
