Wow, ain't modern technology a wonderful thing. I'm sitting in my (very nice) hotel room using the laptop. We've paid S$150 to use the wireless network for the week - expensive, I know, but well worth it.

I'm feeling pretty spaced out but just glad to have made it over half way in one piece. Last week and all the goodbyes was very strange - good and bad. They definitely went on for too long and I'm actually feeling better about now actually missing people rather than anticipating missing people, if that makes sense. Wendy and Dazza are on the same flight today as we were on yesterday - she's just texted before she got on the flight. Sounds like they've found the goodbyes hard (but who doesn't?) We'll hopefully see them here in S'pre in the next day or so. They're also on our flight to Chch next Monday!

SIA were really good. Alex slept for about half an hour in his bassinet! Would have been longer if the world and his wife hadn't decided to queue for the toilets the moment we got him to sleep. Why are people so stupid!!?? They kept coming up and looking into the cot and shouting 'isn't that thing great? Must be great to be able to get him to sleep!'. People were even trying to play with him when he was asleep! I could have murdered each one of them - who tries to play with a sleeping baby!!?? Especially when they can see the frazzled mother trying to get a few minute's shut-eye! Anyway, apart from that, it was good.

We've slept all afternoon which isn't going to help the jetlag and I'd forgotten how hot and humid S'pre is - think we'll be spending a lot of time indoors, but it is lovely (in a not want to spend more than a few days sort of way). Anyway, sorry for the waffle - just nice to have a connection with people who are in the same boat. This time next week, we'll be in Christchurch.

Right, off to murder the kids.... :laugh

Great to hear from you Kate. Sounds like you're managing the travelling fine, apart from the dolts who want to play with a sleeping baby! Enjoy the break and good luck with the next leg,

Great to hear from you!

Bad position really for the sky cots, hanging on the side of the toilet walls!!! :D

But beggers can't be chosers, at least he wasn't on your knee for 13 hours!

Enjoy the break in Singapore, and say a big hi to Wendy, Daz and Luke when they arrive.

Hope all goes well when you get to NZ, looking forward to your updates, (when you have time!)

I remember travelling with 2 babies ...... you're right, people can be ******* idiots !!!!!!!!Can work both ways, though.

I sat across the aisle from a couple with a baby on the SYD-SIN-LHR leg of my UK trip at Christmas.

The little one cried for much of the journey. OK, that's what babies do and as a parent I know that at times there's little you can do about it. Pressure changes must be agony and really frightening for small kids who don't understand what they are or how to aleviate the discomfort.

But, IMO, these parents didn't do everything in their armoury to keep the child quiet - especially when meals were served they put the screaming child in the bassinette (sp?) whilst they tucked in and quaffed away. I believe that they had an obligation to the other 400 or so unfortunates on the flight to do everything in their power to shut their child up.

Mother's sole answer to trying to calm her child when she did do anything was to pick it up and stand, with her butt in my face, swaying from side to side for ages at a time. Seemingly oblivious of the inter-cabin space that was only three steps away.

Yes, some people can be idiots, but others can be really selfish. The trick is to aim to be neither...

Kate, I feel for you with the folks waking Alex up! have you got any muslins with you? If you have put one over the top of the bassinet so no-one can see him, that should stop them.

George, I have found that sometimes with a crying baby all you can do is put them down for 5 mins for the sake of your own sanity and stuff the rest of the world! Although the bum in your face was a bit much if there was a bigger space nearby. I just hope I manage to keep ours quiet for some of the flight if we go back this year! Although having been on long flights, I always prayed the babies were well away from me.

Hi Kate and Family

Glad to hear you made it halfway. :clap:clap Enjoy S'pore and the next leg.

Look forward to hearing that you have hit the ground in Christchurch.

I was about to suggest the muslin thing but Sal got there first. It's obviously fresher in your mind Sal than mine. :D

Or a big sign saying 'leave me AND my Mum alone'

You lucky things - I bet it is lovely and warm where you are?! Just think of us all freezing over here, desperate to get on that long flight and start our new lives in NZ. If only...

Hope the second leg of your trip goes well and you don't have too many people trying to wake your baby!

Jo
