This might be helpful for anyone who is an AA member in the UK and is coming over to live in NZ.
We went into the AA shop mainly to get an insurance quote and we mentioned we had been AA members in the UK for 18 years. They said we could transfer those years to the NZ membership which meant we got a discount on their membership. ($57 compared to about $75 for the main member and a 50% discount for a second member).
When they came to give us quotes for car and contents insurance, we then got a further discount on those quotes based on the number of years we'd been members.
We'd contacted the AA in the UK and emailed them in NZ before we left and both said there would be no continuation of the membership when we moved. The UK membership did not run out till end of April and we just kept it going because they wouldn't give a refund if we cancelled. I'm glad we did, because all we did in the NZ office was show them our AA card and they were quite happy with that.
I think discounts are are based on the number of years you've been a member so if you've been with them for 5 years or more in the UK it's worth bringing the card to NZ.
Karen :)
