had some opinions about different neighborhoods in Dunedin. I thought it was interesting to see a local's perspective.

Here's a sample...
The “Hill”- Maori Hill and Roslyn

Despite its name, Maori Hill is not the South Auckland of Dunedin (that’s South Dunedin). The “higher socio-economic” spectrum of Dunedin live here. Think brand new minis, holiday homes in Wanaka, and Decile 10 schools. Many lecturers live here, as well as landlords, accountants, lawyers, doctors, businessmen and psychotic housewife / power-walkers. Even the fish and chips here are expensive.

yep after visiting Dunedin, I have to agree with the article! boy some of those suberbs were constantly in the shade...so cold.

also they were the cheapest...as you'd expect.

as for some of the propertys..you'd need a climbing rope or ski lift to get up them, I'd hate to even attempt to go up one.

the octagon was nice, and we stayed in the central district in the Law Courts Hotel. a period hotel, but if you want posh rooms give it a miss, but if you want convienient and good breakfast then give it a go...JUST remember to ask for a Non smoking room if you dont smoke...Phew, oh and they all had leccy blankets to keep you toasty

suggest you doing your preliminary visit before deciding. if your work is in the cbd and you like walking, you may be able to do without a car for a few months by getting a place around cbd as the city is very small.
