Good luck with the build, this is the best way to get the type of house you want in NZ. It's amazing to watch how fast they go up once the frames have arrived. Have fun tailoring it to your needs.

We finished a house build recently on a few acres north of Auckland, our biggest costs were tanks and floor coverings, it's easy to spend a lot of money without even noticing :). It's well worth it though and the return you'll make on your investment has to be seen to be believed!

Well finally another photo ,they are moving slowly but I suppose our house isnt the normal one story wooden house ,so lots of steel work has been added this week and the mid floor joists .

Debs

They have given us Dec 9th as completion day [my parents arrive Dec 1st so hopefully they can finish sooner :roll ]

G J Gardners policy is a definate fixed price and date [if they are late they have to pay our rent ].

Hi Marie

Looking good.

I continue to read about the cold houses on the forum, with new builds do they put double glazing in etc or would you need to ask for this.

:)

Marie P
17th September 2006, 12:41 AM
No double glazing ,but house is well insulated or will be when we get walls :laugh [and gas .....so a lovely gas heater !!]

Thanks Marie

Do you know if double glazing is an option? I understand not many company's in NZ that do it. I know it is warmer in NZ, well in parts, but having them fitted would save on bills. I am trying to find out just in case we manage to buy some land when we eventualy get to NZ. :cheers

Marie P
9th October 2006, 08:24 PM
We are doing the landscaping and fences ourselves ,brought the budget down a little.

My parents arrive just before we move in ,they love gardening ,so they can earn their keep :clap

We are just going to grass the large area for the kids ,trampoline and football space ,I want a few fruit trees too, along the back we are going to flag to make a patio area with lots of pots, down by garage side we are going to concrete it [for the storage of his boat :laugh he thinks !!!] put the washing line down there and a shed for the bikes and lawn mower .

Actually our house is the slowest house being built ,as its two story and all brick ,the single story ones are up and having the insides done.
