Just thought I'd share our good news that the NZQA have returned our assessment, in what seems like record time (applied for feb 6th, result received today march 8th)! We have heard and read so many horror stories that it really stressed me out.....So basically I just wanted to say I emailed and rang once a week each week, so hang in there everyone, and keep on pestering your case officer!

Good luck to everyone that has to go through the NZQA

Congrats and well done on getting it so quickly. It took around 14-15 weeks for my wife's assessment to be completed.

Congratulation

I have a question: I would go through NZQA, so they advised me to go through pre-assessment online. How long does it take to get the final results? and do I have to do QA prior to RP application or simulataniously?

HI

We had a pre-assessment done on line for our EOI (we'd had so many conflicting answers from NZIS that we decided to get it done to be safe), we got a response via email from the NZQA for the pre-assessment within 5 working days.

Had we realised that we were going to need a full assessment done (if we got ITA) then we would most certainly have applied for a full assessment in advance as the normal response seems to be a good few months, we seem to just hit it lucky it getting ours assessed and returned so quickly!!!

Good luck !

Should one does full QA before applying for PR or can one apply first for PR and then for full QA ??

You can apply for permanent residency without your assessment, we did, but if you are invited to apply for residency you are only given 4 months to supply all documents, and the problem is it can take along time for the NZQA to assess your qualifications......

But yes you can apply for PR and then get your QA, or you can get QA then apply!!!

We did an online assessment first, which came back very quickly (just a few days). We submitted our ITA on this basis and were given Approval in Principle, being that assuming Keith's qualification was the same as the on-line assessment, we were in...

We had 6 months in which to get this info, but were given an extension of one month as the NZQA were struggling to recognise it - despite the initial on-line result. Although I don't know how often this has happened before, I think we had an understanding CO.

Our final assessment came through by the end of January 06, but not without a bucket load of stress with phone calls, e-mails, faxes etc., to chase this up within our extended deadline.

Had we have waited to get a full assessment before sending our ITA the points would have gone up and we would not have made it, and despite the deadline it did focus us and ultimately the NZQA in getting the result through.

So although it could be termed as a waste of money having the online assessment, it worked for us.

Do you think, should I go through pre-assessment or is it a waste of time/money? knowing that I have a PhD degree from Germany, a Master degree from the Netherlands.

Are your qualifications and places of study on the NZIS recognised list ? If so then I personally wouldnt bother getting a pre-assessment done.....

Good luck

They are not on the list. If I did pre-assessment online (and I expect to get some points) can I claim these points for PR application, even before doing full QA??

Thanks

We got a pre-assessment and because they came back at a level which would give us points, we put them on our EOI, which was accepted. So yes I would put down the points you get from your pre-assessment, (only when you have to provide all your evidence for your PR application will you need to get the full assessment done)
