Hi all,

Previously I mentioned NewJobZ and going via them... but due to a severe lack of independant user reviews we have devided to go it alone. *gulp*

Without a job offer I don't have enough points... so we intend to go the 2 yr work to residence route... and want to settle in the Hamilton area.

Where do I get started ? any ideas ?

Medicals are being booked on Monday 13th March for a couple of weeks time.
Police checks will follow after that.

Now the questions are...

What kinds of Visas are there ?

What about work permits... do I need a job offer before I can apply for one whilst being in NZ ? ( I work in IT systems admin)

What's needed for the 2yrs work visa ?

Am I confusing this 2 yr work visa with the work to residence ?

Thanks in advance for all replies,

Doz

Hi Doz,
You can only get a work to residence visa if you already have a job(offer) with an accredited employer. This visa is valid for 30 months, after 2 years you can then apply for permanent residence (without having to comply with the points system).

Not sure on the work permit, but I think you have to have a job for that as well.

I've also read that some go out on a tourist visa, apply for jobs when they're there and if they have a job apply for the work permit.

Good luck!

Ok next question... Is ther a list of accredited employers ?

How long does it take to get a WTR visa once you have an offer ?

Can't be too long as you'd lose the job.

regards,

Doz

I got WTR after 2 months of applying for it. However, you might need more time to collect the documentations needed for the application.

We got WTR visa within 6 weeks, so it can be very quick. But you need your medicals, police checks and all sorts of other proof sorted.
You can find a list of accredited employers on the NZIS website, but it is not completely complete ;)
The employer of my husband is not on the list but is an accredited company.

I got this info from the NZIS website..................

The Work to Residence category is for people:
* who have job offers from employers who we’ve accredited to recruit staff from overseas
* with skills we’ve identified this country needs (refer to skills shortage list)
* with recognised talents and abilities in the arts, culture and sports fields, whose time in New Zealand will enhance the country’s reputation
* who want to establish a business in New Zealand as a step to gaining residence.
