Hello All!
We've been reading lots of posts over the past couple of weeks and found it all helpful, exciting and terrifying at the same time!! Time to introduce ourselves I feel and really get a part of this!
We are a family of 5 from Taunton, Somerset who are emigrating to Christchurch in late July/early August, and visiting for two weeks without our children in June to try to set up jobs, schools etc and generally suss out the area! :raebanana
Just wondered if there are other poeple from this area who have made the move or thinking about it! In the last two months we have heard of three other families in the immediate vicinity that are planning or have moved to NZ!

I was originally from Glastonbury, moved to Birmingham, and now just outside Christchurch.
It is well worth the move, loving it here, finding it harder to find a job than we thought, dont' bother looking in December or januray. All coming good now though, as they are truely back to work over here.
Fantastic lifestyle so far (4 months) no homesickness, no doubts, just want to finally get settled in a job and house of our own.
email me if you want any advice.

I grew up in Taunton! :) My parents still live there and we visit often. It's funny when you embark on this how many people seem to be doing the same thing. (Or is it you just notice it more because you're interested. A bit like noticing all the prams everywhere when you have your first baby!! )

Hi Jo and Nicola!
Nice to know that there are other people from this area out there or at least thinking about it!
We booked our one-way flights today! Argh! It's actually happening! Feels really good though!
Time is really speeding up too! Have booked, cancelled and rebooked the shippers after a rather worrying post on here and another friends bad experience with the same company (GB Liners, Bristol). We have gone with our original preference - I've found you should always go with your gut instinct rather than letting logic get in the way! Anyway, its done now!
Thanks for your replies!

New to this forum :raebanana .We are a family of three livivng in Bishops Lydeard, near Taunton and we are going out to Christchurch in May to check out the place to see what we think of it. If all goes well then the next step will be to start the immigration process. Hope to get a job offer before we submit our forms and have been in touch with some people over there and they seem very helpful. We've been reading lots of posts over the past few months and everyone seems really nice and helpful. I dare say we will have some questions ourselves soon! Mike, Sharon and Sean :)

Hi Nicola and Lupin77 and thanks for the offers of help - I'm sure we'll be taking you up on those before too long!
We've been in touch with Debbie who did the original post and found out we don't live that far away from each other and have mutual friends in common - hopefully meeting up soon to have a chat with them (and a bevvy or too :cheers )!! Small world isn't it.
We can't believe that it's only just over 3 weeks until we go out to Christchurch for our look-see. Everyone keeps asking me if we are getting excited, but have to admit I don't like flying so I'm not too excited at the moment!!! Too much to think about as well - all this organising and packing lark is always left to us women!!!!!!!! Good job Mike isn't here at the moment, otherwise I'm sure he'd be making some comment about that! :laugh
Can anyone tell me what the weather might be like at the end of May/beginning of June???? (we go on 25th May and come back 5th June)
I've been told to expect everything but I'm not sure whether to take t-shirts or thick jumpers!! Even at home here yesterday it was warm enough for a t-shirt!
Anyway - back to the ironing :wah
Cheers for now.
Sharon (& Mike in spirit if not in body!!) :exit
