Phew our shipping nightmare is finally over............................................
Letton Percival, our marine insurers have paid out (www.lettonpercival.co.uk (http://www.lettonpercival.co.uk)) and have been very professional and communicative. Flintoffs the loss adjuster was out straightaway, estimates took a bit of time but that was down to me. Full amount (less excess) paid into my bank account and car goes in for body work respray etc soon. Other stuff that was broken is being replaced or repaired.
We claimed separately against Curtiss for the damage to the bikes, loss of the bike keys and alarm fob, stripping & replacement of the alarm, MAF, steam cleaning fees and vacuuming fees. Curtiss refused to acknowledge their verbal promise to clean the car after they drove it away, the bikes were left standing around prior to being containerised and were filthy too.
After weeks of to-ing and fro-ing Curtiss finally posted a claim form to us. This was dealt with by their insurer, Removal Claims Service of Leatherhead, who have been very prompt and helpful, although they referred to White and Co, not Curtiss. The claim was held up for a month as the person who dealt with this at Curtiss was on holiday for February and no one else could deal. Curtiss refused to pay for the extra MAF, inspection, quarantine and transport fees ($500) for the bikes. We decided to accept the offer of $810 as there is only so long you can bang your head against a wall before doing serious damage.
The second motorbike is finally on the road after nearly 4 months. VTNZ refused to register it as they said the VIN was not a Honda one and the bike was possibly stolen. Having owned it for six years, taxed, MOT'd and held the V5 for it in the UK from 6 months old, we thought this unlikely but again we were stuck. Fruitless emails and phone calls to DVLA and Honda UK got us nowhere. Finally in desperation I called Honda NZ (www.honda.co.nz (http://www.honda.co.nz)) who were fab, within 20 mins I had 2 phone calls and email confirmation of the accuracy of the VIN and a print out of the range of numbers for that model bike, showing our number. They also advised that VTNZ were likely to say that we would have to have the bike re-vinned but this was not necessary. Indeed that is exactly what VTNZ did say but we took it higher up and were finally issued with registration docs.
However, we received a letter from the DVLA on Friday stating the Vin number was incorrect , 8 weeks after we first contacted them.
We moved 3 times in the UK in the last three years and never had one problem at all, no breakages no hassle, used Greenwoods in Kingston each time.
We would NOT recommend in any way, shape or form Curtiss Moving and Storage of Copnor Portsmouth Hampshire or NZ Van Lines in Wellington . If any one has any queries by all means pm me or see my previous nightmare threads.
We WOULD certainly recommend Letton Percival all the way, 1.57% rate, professional and courteous too.:nice1
No apologies for another lengthy post. As long as it helps just one person make a decision ...................
