Hi and greetings from Christchurch

We've been trying to set up our laptop all week for the internet, but have had no joy, so this is the first time I've been on a computer all week (strangely enough I haven't really missed it that much!).

We've been here for a week but it seems like forever. Things are going well - we were greeted by our friends at the airport, which was great. We've Paked n Saved (thought it was pretty good but then I'm used to the likes of Asda and Morrisons) and done Warehouse too.

Christchurch is as lovely as I remember. We're in an appartment in the city centre at the moment but will be moving out to Sumner (where I am at the moment) at the start of April. We're going to rent for the first year - don't feel ready to commit ourselves to any area by buying yet.

Can't get my head round the weather - one minute you're freezing, then the next the sun is burning into you, so you get changed into T-shirts by which point you're freezing again! Still, it is lovely and sunny!

Cadbury's is yuk here (which is good as it's my one weakness), but I'm addicted to Tim Tams already.

We stayed at our friends' place at the weekend out near Rangiora - they have a sleep out and the kids were supposed to be sleeping in there, but they came running in after an hour absolutely terrified!

That's all for now - Emma's waiting to check her email before our time's up! Oh, and I just ran into Wendy and Dazza an hour ago in Sumner - they seem pretty happy too, so all is well, really!

Bye for now - as soon as our laptop is fixed, I'll be back on again!

Kate - great news, sounds like you're having a ball. The weather is crazy isn't it? loved your comments on Cadbury's, it is pretty dreadful eh (although I have to say that 9 months down the line I've kinda got use to it).

Hope you continue on such a happy & positive note and keep us posted with your progress.

I also had to smile about your report of the kids running out of the sleepout - my kids did much the same (me too) several years ago at my sister in laws place.

Have fun

Hi Kate & Co!

I think that between you and Wendy you're using all of Sumner's net connections!! :D

Good to hear you've arrived safely - I've spent a day or so with Wendy and Dazza and little Luke (what a lovely little lad!) who seem to be settling in nicely too :nice1

Keep us posted!

Hi Kate

I was wondering how you were doing.

Glad to hear you have enjoyed your first week and you sound well on your way to settling with the rental and everything. Have you found schools and things for the older two?

Haven't tried Cadburys, is it that awful? In fact I eat very few NZ sweets or biccies, Whittakers is the only choccie I like but I don't miss it at all. Isn't the weather fun? I start the day in layers, furry purple moonboots and fingerless gloves sitting working at the pc and by 1 o'clock I'm peeling off and in shorts. Not a sight for sore eyes at all. ;)

Look forward to hearing more when you're not sharing THE Sumner net connection.

Way hay, we've got the laptop fixed and we now have dial-up on tap. Deborah, we spoke to Sumner School today - we're going for a visit on Friday and with any luck, the kids can start on Monday!! I love them dearly, but both they and we are ready for them to start school. They finished in the UK on 17 Feb - they both love school and friends etc so can't wait to start. Our lease starts on 1 April (about 2 weeks before our stuff arrives), so we'll just have to make do - might be fun (alternatively it really might not!!!).

We're off to Akaroa tomorrow with Wendy and Daz so that should be fun. I still can't believe we've only been here 8 days - seems like a lifetime!

Sounds like you are settling in well, and it will be just you and little Alex as of next week.

My advice with the Cadburys is dont have any for ages, you forget what it "should" taste like, and its not so bad, either that or try the Whitakers like Deb suggested if you fancy a fix, I like Milo bars too....

Continue having fun!

Sounds like your settling in great. :clap

Shame to here about the cadbury's though. I help keep em in business! ;)

Milo bars - never tried but used to have a milo hot drink on a dive boat up near the poor nights islands. Ah fond memories. :)

Enjoy..............

Kat, I will get pictures sorted out once we're a bit more organised - promise! We had a good day in Akaroa although I spent all day feeling sick from all the winding roads - what a wuss!

It's been a good day. We've been down to Sumner school and the girls start on Monday - yippee!! They're very excited, although Emma wouldn't speak a word when she was taken to meet her new classmates - it was quite funny, though. Her new teacher asked how many children were born in England and half of them put their hands up!! We spent a long time getting them kitted out in all the uniform. It really feels like things are starting to happen now - it's not a holiday - we live here!!

Can't understand how I managed to get burned today - it was cold and rainy!! My poor little baby has a bright red face - I feel awful!
