I wonder if this would help ????
Our medical was a lovely calm & pleasant experience & I can't reccomend them enough - should we have a thread on this ? all experiences good / bad etc etc .
We saw Dr Ormerod at 11 moor park rd , Preston , Lancs
Appointments easy to make & convenient days / times avaliable
The doc was lovely - very nice , chatty ,calm but professional without being patronizing , also very quick - saw both DH & I in 55 minutes . Oh & the best blood test i've ever had - amazing (& i've had lots recently). water cooler for those who were struggling to wee was welcomed by Paul .
£120 each + £95 for bloods cash or cheque only - perhaps a bit expensive but free parking , local & an easy drive in .
parking was ok , practice was nice & staff helpful .
Chest rads were done at Fulwood Hall a capio (bupa) hospital , in Preston , Lancs - again quick & pleasant service -although they had failed to put our appointment in the book - they did their utmost to see us asap , rads were £60 each any form of payment was fine , parking was good & again easy to find .
We were able to pick reports up a week later

I went to the Bridge Clinic in Maidenhead.
Cannot remember the name of the doc there but he was efficient and friendly.
The whole deal was £202 inc XRays and blood tests and they were able to see me within a fortnight. Results were returned in a week or slightly less.
Only thing I should say, the doc made a mistake on the certificate that meant the case officer had to pause my interview pending a review from one of her supervisors. In my case it wasn't a problem but if it had have required a second visit that would have been a real nuisance.
Overall however I would definately recommend them again.

My Doc in Norwich was very pleasant too.
Mind you I can be pleasant for £400 an hour (cost for 2 Adults plus 2 kids)
Cynic in me bubbles to the surface ! :p

Hi Mossum, great idea to put all these together. Here's the link to our experience with the wonderful Dr Million in Manchester last year.

Thought I'd add our bit too -
We've just got back from our medicals in Norwich - Thorpewood Medical Services/Centre. Very efficient and pleasant doctor - reassured us that everything seems to be okay, even though one of us is due to go into hospital tomorrow for an operation and another of us is currently suffering from depression!
Let's hope that NZIS agree that there's nothing to worry about!

Interesting to read here that the medicals in UK don't really seem to be much different in price from those i had done in NZ, which surprises me. You can use any docs in NZ, and prices vary wildly.
Cheapest quote we got was
$200 per adult, $50 per child for medical only
$85 blood test, $65 chest xray
Cheaper, but not mind blowingly, wallet inspiringly cheaper!
Good experience though, quick and painless....although did have to return FOUR times due to repeat urine test needed on my daughter and numerous mistakes made by GP who had never done a medical before for NZIS!! Mistakes like not initialling each page of form.
Advice - check your forms and check them again and again. Slightest bits missed out can cause problems at NZIS end, or so i've heard from others on this forum.

We had same the experience and the same Doctor as Mossum also Fulwood Hall for X-rays. Both the medical and x-rays where quick and professional and we’d highly recommended both.

Hello,
We went to the place at Gatwick - Brookdale Medical Centre. It was very efficient as they do all the medicals for flight crew for the airlines. It was £246 each including all the new blood tests and xrays. We were in and out within the hour and only had to pop into the Bupa hospital next door (where we had parked for free) for the chest xrays where we were called straight in, as they were expecting us. The paperwork arrived back with us within 5 days. No extra charges for postage or anything. This was all much more pain-free than I was expecting and a hell of a lot easier than hauling arse in to the centre of London. I would definetly recommend it for anyone in the south east.
Lets just hope I get the application in before the medical expires and we have to do it all over again!!

My husband and I went to Handsworth Wood Medical Center: http://www.hwmedicalservices.co.uk/
£500 for both of us, medicals, bloods & chest x-rays
They made appts within a week of us calling to book. The medicals, bloods and x-rays were all done in the same office on the same day. The forms and tests were complete and ready to be picked up within two weeks of our appointment.

Dr Million - appropriately named and a cheeky, sarcastic get to boot - spot on Questor.
He can be a bit condescending, but as a means to an end, not bad.

A bit vague here - sorry, but it was nearly 18 months ago now - but we went down to Weymouth for ours. A retired private doctor who did the medical in his lovely old house. Lots of toys for the children to play with, very nice, friendly and efficient. He also could offer us virtually any day, any time, which was great since all our local clinics in the Oxford / Reading area were booked solid for months, and would not have been able to do all four of us togther. So a day trip out to the seaside to boot. The x-rays were done at the JR in Oxford, and if you know the place I need not go into any further detail ....
Can't remember how much it cost though - I think I blocked this painful detail from memory :laugh Suffice to say it wasn't cheap, but no more than anywhere else.

Hi, had mine yesterday with a Dr Imms at Penn Hill surgery in Yeovil. Very nice man, did his best to put the children at ease.
I paid £170 to have bloods done locally a few weeks ago (knew I was over the magic BMI 35)
I paid £80 for the chest X-ray a few weeks ago
The medical cost £80 for me, £60 for my eight year old and £50 for my three year old.
So that's £440 in total for 1 adult and 2 children, which I think was rather steep but it was a 60 mile round trip and the closest to me. On the day he charged me £30 less for the medical because I had "organised everything so well it took half the time". I had it all sorted in seperate plastic folders etc and had organised the bloods and X-ray so I didn't have to pay postage costs and could bring the completed medical certificate home with me. I know I payed a little over the odds but the surgery in our town that used to do them stopped last year because they felt the tests were too intrusive or something!! They still do Australian medicals.

Had ours in Sheffield, really rought bit behind the station at Duke's Medical Centre but had to get X-Rays done elsewhere.
Can't remember price as it was around 1 yr ago, but was middle of the road.
Don't like to be negative about people but suffice it to say if I was doing it again knowing what I know I'd go else where. Even if it meant a VERY long drive.
Cheers,
Yogi.

I had mine done in Edinburgh Morningside but I wouldnt recommend them, both my 15yr old son and I had to have ours done at the same time to save them time , doc was only interested in our cash, go as far to say that it has cost our family our emigration to NZ, so beware!

it all worked right in the end for us but I was a bit nervous that NZIS would make a fuss about the envelope.
Sheffield was the cheapest, but If I did it again I would factor in the travel time and would have gone to Hull,
As to the X-rays.....would that be CLAREMONT HOSPITAL for your X-rays???
I must say that they were very good, and we had no complaints.

For any south westerners try Dr Gibb at Stannery Surgery in Tavistock (Devon), we phoned last Mon morning and were booked in for the whole lot the next day (Tues morning)!!
It wasn't the cheapest quote we had but considering we were booked in within 24hrs and the results came back excately 7 days later we thought it a good service. The Doc and his wife (the practice nurse) also spend 6 months of the year in NZ so we were also able to pick their brains a bit about the local hospital in Dunedin where l'll be working!!!
