If the rental property has a garden, who has responsibility for maintaining it?
Just wondering if I need to bring the lawn mower?
Thanks

The properties we visited varied. But most expected you to maintain the garden, some had gardeners and some even had cleaners.
However, a lot of the properties only had patios/decking etc. And any lawns were very small. One even had one of thoses old roller grass cutters - which obviously did the job fine, on such a small lawn.
We were looking in the North Shore, Auckland, where plot sizes are very small.
I'd probably go with the old, "if you've got room in the container, bring it". Alternatively it might be something that you can hire over here - I'm not sure,
Cheers

Some rentals ask you to look after the lawn, and what many folks do is get someone to do it for them, costs between $15 & 30 a time depending on plot size. It should be listed on the rental agreement one way or the other
but if you plan on getting your own house, you may as well bring your own (if you can be bothered to clean it!:) )

Both rentals we've had, it has been our responsibility to do the lawns and gardens. Technically under the Tenancy Act the land lord is responsible for 'maintenance' and the tenants for 'keeping the property presentable'. I guess you could argue that mowing the lawns falls in either category! I would say bring your mower if you have room for it - you'll need it someday.

Before we sign the tenancy agreement, we told the landlord upfront that we do not want to mow the lawn and he accept. So he arrange someone to do it.

We don't have to mow the lawn and that was the case with all the rentals we looked at. Just as well - the shippers made us ditch our lawn mower cos it wouldn't fit on the container!

We own a rental property, we told our tennant that we would mow the law if he wanted us to but he does it himself.
Have to say we have the tennant from heaven - does all the 'odd jobs' himself, does all the maintenance himself and pays the rent early. Plus he's not bad looking either !!!

It's our responsibility to mow the lawn at our rental - the owner has provided a lawn mower though and hubby always enjoyed looking after the lawns back home in the UK. Lots of folk round us seem to use a gardner who turns up in a truck with all his mowing/gardening equipment in the back and works his way up and down the close!
We don't mind a bit of gardening to tell you the truth.

Are mowers expensive over there? We have no plans to bring ours over - can't even be bothered to think about cleaning it, and it's on it's last legs - and can't see the point buying one here without knowing what size garden we may end up with, but just wondering if they are one of those things that are really expensive?
Thanks,
Emily

You ain't going to get your small flymo out here as they seem to be few and far between, so expect to pay anything from $195 upwards for a petrol driven one.
