Hi,
We just got stamped passports back for PR today, something on the visa says we have to apply for a permit when we get there?
Anyone know more about what's needed?
Cheers,
Yogi.

Wow Congratulations :raebanana :raebanana I was wondering how you were getting on with PR
Unfortunately can't help with the permit bit other than it may be the form you fill in on the plane.

I'm pretty sure (not 100% sure, sorry) that the permit is the stamp you get in your passport when you go through airport immigration. A visa gives you permission to go to NZ, a permit gives you permission to stay in NZ. So you "apply" for your permit by arriving at the airport with your visa.
For example, my US-citizen husband didn't need a visa to travel to NZ on vacation, (visa waiver program) but he did need a permit to stay in NZ, and the stamp in his passport says "visitor's permit, current for 3 months".
Hope that helps.

More or less correct. A visa is something you get before you travel to NZ (or any other country), and on arriving at immigration control you will be issued a permit in line with the visa conditions.
The purpose of the visa is to allow you to travel. Airlines are responsible for ensuring that passengers they deliver to a country are adequately documented to permit said passenger to enter, so you either need some document that says thet NZ is likely to let you in, or there are other satisfying conditions (eg from a visa waiver country) that will allow you to enter.
The process is painless, the Immigration Officer looks at your passport, fixes you with a steely stare, selects one of several rubber stamps in front of him/her, with a technqiue known to Empire trained adminstrators worldwide noisily whacks the pad, whacks your passport, and with a big smile hands it you back and says "Welcome to New Zealand".

And they may even say "Welcome Home" which is an unbelievable buzz.
Remember - with a PR Visa- you can go in the fast queue - its for Aussie adn Kiwi Residents - of which you are now one!
Savour the moment :clap

Residents[/B] - of which you are now one!
Does that go for a WTR visa as well?

Friad not. With a WTR visa - you are not yet a residnet - so you cant use the resident queue.
On the other hand - NZIS swore blind in teh UK that this queue was only for people with Citizenship - and that turned out to be a load of crap! So you could alwasy be cheeky and ask a member of staff if your visa means you can go in that queue. :nice1
If you dont ask - you dont get :nice1
