:D
Hi really excited as we have just got PR and looking forward to flying to Auckland at end April where my husband starts his new job. I haven't really looked into working out there at the moment but would like to work from home or maybe from a salon as a complementary therapist. Does anyone know if there are any peculiar rules that would prevent me from getting insurance etc to set up? I have all my qualifications but haven't actually practised in the UK so it would be a pain if I had to re-train.
Thanks

Hi Sarah.
Congratulations on getting the PR. Not surprised you are sooo excited - you deserve to be !
Can't help with the self employed questions, but there will be someone on here who can help I'm sure.
Good luck with the move in April.
All the best for your NZ new life.
Julie

Basically it depends on what training you have, but from what ive seen there is little to stop you practicing. Insurance seems to be through AON, but ive not contacted them yet so I have no details. As is the case in the UK, ive certainly seen therapists working without insurance and seemingly without professional registraition. Again as in the UK, there are a couple of therapies which require registration by law, such as osteopathy, so it well worth checking if this affects your own therapies.
So - most importantly - are you currently a member of a professional governing body for your therapy? If so - get in touch with them to see if there is an equivalent here. Im ny case (aromatherapy) there isnt (well there is but its not worth much), so ive renewed my UK membership of IFPA, which covers me here. I have to get NZ insurance sorted, and i have to do first aid training (here a certifcate lasts 2 years instead of three).
If you dont have professional memberships in the UK - that would be the first thing to look for here.
