We have arrived in NZ to find an invoive for $220 from The Moving Company, it states this is to pay for quarantine clearance & handling Incl supervision!!!
Has any one encountered this before, and should we pay or can we pay maf direct??? Our container is due 25th April.

you need to do a search under maf fees for this - as its a bit complex to go over again.

Although in short - $220 isnt tooooo excessive.

Check that the invoice actually includes your MAF inspection fees or just the shippers charges for picking up the phone and pen.

If they say it is for MAF fees and your shipment isn't in the country and being held hostage by the shippers, insist on paying MAF direct.

My monies on it being just the shippers charges as (I was told) they won't get MAF involved a month beforehand, but maybe I'm just a cynical old smiler.................

It's my turn now! Just received the paperwork from the Moving Company, and a bill, they want 640 dollars up front for the inspection of our goods and 1 car.

I put on the bill "we will pay MAF directly" and will send it back to them.
Let's wait and see... :D
