Hi. I noticed the suggstion to just check the Dom Post for rentals from the owner instead of paying anything to a rental agency. I've been a homeowner, so I'm not sure what services a rental agency offers -- other than helping you rent a house that's only listed through them.

Do they serve as any sort of intermediary if you have problems with the landlord? Do you just deal with them instead of a landlord? We have one extremely small (1.36 kg) dog, and I see that almost every ad says no pets, so perhaps an agency will help me find a place that will take us?

Just trying to figure out how we want to go about it when we hit the ground on rental hunting mode.

Thanks!

I think when you are looking you have to try everything so contact the agencies, look at the ads etc. The dog will make it harder, we have a cat and that also posed some serious issues but we did find places that would take a cat. We ended up buying very quickly though so it ended up not mattering.

Agents I belive are your main contact, not the owner.

I have heard very good things about: www.quinovic.co.nz/

Thanks Chris! I had not seen that site, and I have emailed them about visiting their office after we arrive.
