Sure i've seen this question raised a couple of months ago and have tried my hardest to find the thread on the forum, searching under numerous terms, to no avail....so, sorry - here goes again!!
If we pay our migrant levy in the UK and are issued PR visas I understand that we would have one year to enter NZ and activate our passports (to turn the visa into a permit and get our 2 year RRV issued).
Does anyone know if I, the principal applicant, come to NZ and activate my passport whether this will automatically mean that the rest of my family's passports are activated and issued with a 2 year RRV or do they have to travel to NZ with me to achieve this?
Thanks, hannah

I understand that you have to have each PP activated individualy. ie you can't come back on your own and activate the other three visa's

That's an interesting question...hm...according with NZIS the family is issued with the same visa or permit as the main applicant...so theoreticaly would be enough for the main aplicant to go...however better check with NZIS in London.

If anyone is interested I did find out the answer to this one - as Deborah suggested each family member has to travel to NZ to activate their visa into a permit. So, if a family wishes to travel to NZ to activate their visa and to return to UK (or wherever) get their RRV (essentially giving them another 2 yrs before they have to take up residency permanently) ALL family members must go.

Yeah Hannah that is what we have been told too so it's gonna cost a few $$ for all of us to head over to NZ for a few weeks but I'm just thinking of the bigger picture...David

Do you mean all family must go at the same time, or can they land at different times as long as they all go?

We had the same question and our agent asked the case officer for us. The answer back was that it would be OK for my OH to travel on his own to NZ before me, (Im the principle applicant) and this would activate his visa but that we would all have to travel over before our individual visas became active.
Hope this helps
Debbie.

Yep - the long and short of it is that you all have to travel there before your 12 months are up :(
