Just thought I would update everyone on my progress. Last time I think I said I had booked my tickets. Well, I am now in Auckland (7 weeks ), applied for 15 jobs, one interview which led to a job offer...yahoo!! Work permit application went in last friday so just have to wait a while.. up to 5 weeks they say Phew!!

Have a slight worry on my blood test as one of the liver function tests was a bit high ( a few too many beers the night before!) so I recommend total abstinence before giving bloods... be warned. Anyway, hopefully it wont be a problem. I will let you all know.

Just looking around now for where to buy a house. The job is in East Tamaki so I amm looking around Howick, Bucklands Beach etc and (I will whisper) Manurewa!!

Also thought Onehunga may be an option... any pointers appreciated.

Thats all for now good luck everyone

Congratulations Bruce for your job offer :raebanana
Well done :nice1
By the way, what is your profession if you don't mind me asking.

My previous workplace is at Onehunga and I would say it is more for industries than housing. Thus, the houses there are pretty affordable.

Howick, Bucklands Beach and Manurewa are near your workplace. These are nice areas to live and you will have no traffic problem.

Good Luck with your work permit and your new job.
:cheers

Agree with Ivy, Onehunga is a bit too industrial for me tastes.

Working in ET if you want something really close, then you could think about Danemora, very popular just now, all new well buuilt houses, not really my taste, it's bit souless and the gardens are small. Reminds me of an upmarket estate on a british new town, which is just what we left.

Pakuranga / Howick are both good, no more than a 15 min drive to ET in the morning. Both very good areas for kids.

If you want apartment living there are some nice complexes around Botony Downs, which have a holiday living theme to them, serviced gym / swiming pool areas. Perhaps not the best purchase just now as some of them might be "leaky" but excellent value to rent.

Flat Bush is close and cheap, but it's cheap for a good reason
