In June 2005, people born in the United Kingdom accounted for 24% of the Australian population, followed by New Zealand with 9%, Italy with 5%, and China and Vietnam with 4% each.
But the report also found that in the nine years to June 2005, the largest increase of overseas-born people was from New Zealand with an additional 140,100 people.
Those born in China increased by 70,000 and those from India and South Africa also went up by more than 50,000 each. - AAP
