That must be some kind of record ............ when the policeman is abit tasty it makes it $80 well spent don't you think.

We may have pipped you to it Moorf, Hubby got a speeding ticket back in May, I think for 114kpm.

He did look suitably sheepish when he paid the fine though. :laugh :laugh

Yeah, it did take the sting out of it a bit - Woz is taking the mick now and has put on the NZ equivalent of Speed Cops on the telly!!

I must say, cop car did surprise me... it was actually coming toward me and then I just saw it slap its lights on and U-turn and chase me !!! Oh, doesn't it sound dramatic... :laugh

Well, wine shop has just rung to say our order of 2 bottles of Cloudy Bay has arrived - what good timing!!

:nice1

Hey Wilson - were u on a UK licence or NZ? Wasn't sure how it works....

He took my UK licence but under "Driving Licence Number" he just put UK... will it go onto my NZ licence (should I ever get one!)...

Have to go into Westpac bank tomorrow to pay the fine! :? But have 56 days to do so.. how kind!

I think we were lucky, cause we were on a uk licence and only on holiday at the time.

Think it just is a case of paying the fine when on a UK licence, both daughter and soninlaw mnaged to get caught on camera within the first couple of months of being here, and am pretty sure it was just a case of money and no points.

Out of interest do you know how they actually worked out that you were doing 113km/h (I assume you meant kph not kpm :eek ). Was it a guess or did they have some fancy equipment?

I might have to upgrade the cloaking device for my car. :?

Speaking of speeding tickets, how bad/strict are NZ polices?
Moorf, don't drive too fast again next time :P

Richard - front facing radar in the dash of his car :? You have contact in the US Airforce who could lend you some radar deflecting paint? :laugh

Well Xanctus - I'd say they were very strict - in the UK I may have got away with a warning for doing so little over the limit (you get up to 10% over limit as a leeway) and I was only doing 3kph over that! And on the long, long straight roads its easy for the speed to creep up without noticing.

But.. no excuses.. I was speeding. I will pay my dues :wah

You mean 13kph over the limit - unless they have changed the national speed limit in the time I've been away from NZ. It is still 100kph maximum speed limit, yes?

That aside, speeding is a big no-no in NZ. Watch out for the unmarked police cars too!

Not quite, I have a laser jammer. That is obviously only effective against laser guns though. I am in the process of selling my GPS based speed camera locator since it won't be of any use in NZ and have bought a radar detector instead. It sounds like I may have to make good use of it.

I was caught doing 99mph on the M40 just over three years ago. Those points came off last month so I now have a clean license again. I have calmed down a lot because of it but it sounds like the NZ police are a lot stricter than the UK ones. Pehaps I ought to disconnect the supercharger on the Jag - it sounds like I will soon be on first name terms with most of the ChCh police force. :(

Linda - he was kinda dishy.. and, well, uniforms... :angel :angel

It was on the way back from Timaru... now THERE's a story... come huddle in the lounge and I'll tell you...!! :laugh

Xanctus - yep, speed limit IS 100 but on the ticket it seems to indicate that you have a 10% leeway so 110 would be "ok". It was just those darned 3kph :no

And Richard - I'd be v. careful - very VERY careful - they are very hot and everywhere. Plus the fine and the "demerit" points go up the more over the limit you go.

I got a speeding ticket in Feb when we were there.....   Think I was doing 120 :no  I'm so used to driving everywhere here at 80 odd that 60mph / 100kph seems slow and I just didn't realise (I'd only been behind the wheel for about 10 mins  , hubbie had done most of the driving up until then!)

When we get a definite date for moving, I'm going to spend the last month here driving no faster than 60mph wherever I go to try to acclimatise :nice1 :? (Hehehe - drive everyone on the motorway mad :laugh :laugh )

As far as I know any points you have on your UK license don't count, BUT... :wah points gained in NZ on your UK license as a tourist do get kept on the system. If you come back and apply for an NZ license before they have expired, they will automatically be put on your new license! :wah :wah (That's what we were told anyway - I'll confirm when I finally get there and get a license :( )

Just a word of warning about fixed penalty fines for speeding in the UK. Certainly at Saga Insurance (which I have just left working for), everytime someone has a speeding fine, their insurance premium goes up by 9%. You only need a husband and a wife pick up a couple each and you are talking about very expensive premiums. :?
