Hi - new to this site - finally managed to register after a lot of time spent reading all the info!!!! .... decided to go for skilled migrant just after Christmas and things have moved quite quickly ..selected from the pool after one week and have got our ITA ...course we weren't expecting all this to happen so quick and so have done nothing about getting out qualifications recognised .. having read all the good advice guess we should have done that first but too late now!!!! ... wanted to know if anyone had their medicals done in the York area ... and what chance do you have of getting all the things back about the qualifications in time to file the ITA before the time is up.... any info would be appreciated

Hi Katy and

WELCOME TO THE FORUM.

Cant help you with your questions I'm afraid.

We didn't have to use NZQA and to add insult to injury - we live in Lancashire :uhoh (well, someone has to as they say !)

I'm sure loads of people will respond and give you the help you need.

you havent said what sort of qualifications you have, it seems to depend on your university as well, as if they drag their heels etc the NZQA can drag terribly. So start ASAP.

any way Wellcome and good luck, http://jbrunod.free.fr/toshop/smileys/EM06_T.gif

as for medicals, check around as the prices vary, the panel list is on the london NZIS website
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/live/partner/LinkAdministration/ToolboxLinks/PanelDoctors.htm?level=1

then type in the area i.e. York, Hull, Sheffield (we went there they were the cheapest when we did ours)

Good Luck

Just to buck the trend,

NZQA were relatively quick for us - 4/5 weeks ish - even though we had a few problems to deal with. They emailed, we emailed back and all was sorted. Pleasure to do business with!

Don't forget to get on the police check - that can take time!

Cheers

NZQA to about 3 months for me. I would get them off as soon as possible. I made sure I had the correct university contact name and address on the forms I sent off. This should speed it up - you could also ring this person to make contact and confirm they are the person that deals with things like this. Then when they are contacted by NZQA they will remember you and deal with the requests a little quicker.

Welcome to the forum by the way. :nice1

Thanks for all the help - we both have BEds (secondary school teachers) .. got the police checks going ..thing is we lived in the states for 4 years so need an FBI check as well which I have a feeling might take a while... checked out some prices for medicals ... one quoted 860 for 2 adults and 2 kids - seems a bit steep but with all the blood tests etc guess it adds up!

Cheers for all the welcomes - much appreciated...

Hi Katy and welcome,
good luck with NZQA and the FBI stuff. Do check out various options on the medicals. Mossum has put a good thread together on meds under the Immigration Medicals section here. We travelled from Cardiff to Manchester (I'll say it again, hurrah for Dr Million!) and saved £500 for a family of six compared to Cardiff, even though we stayed overnight (good ole Travelodge!), so it's definitely worth checking out,

Hi Katy

We found ourselves in exactly the same situation, got our ITA and then applied for medicals, police checks and had to go to the NZQA for assessment, we paid the fast track fee and got certificate within 1 month, managed to submit all the requested evidence 3 weeks before the deadline !! Our medical was done in nottingham, they saw us within 3 weeks and it cost £660 for 2 adults and a 6 month old (god how expensive is that!)So it can be done, good luck hope all goes well...... :nice1

Cheers :cheers

Hi - we didnnt have to send owt to NZQA as all mine went to the EWRB (electrician's certs) but NZIS did require us to have a statutory declaration for the ITA signed by a solicitor from our kids divorced father. the first solicitor wanted to charge us £82 the next one £47, so we dug out a previous statutory declaration and copied its format and inserted the new statement and after a bit of help from the legal secretary regarding the wording, we printed our own and then swore it for just £5!!! PM me if you need to do one and i'll send it you to copy

Also, we submitted our ITA with only 10 days to go even though my electrical licence had not come. they are happy to wait for "1 or 2 documents" as long as you tell them in your covering letter. Good luck :nice1

medicals cost sounds a bit OTT - we did 2 adults and 2 kids for about £420 in Manchester - would be worth a trip over the pennines I think.

Police checks can take a while so you are wise to get the requests in early.

HI
New to this so here goes, we are currently looking at the process. Do all qualitfication have to be checked by NZQA I have a recognised qualification obtain from LMU Social WOrker DIPSW. Is it anough that it is on the recognised list?

Still looking at which area to live in WE fancy Nelson area, Richmond if possible, also depends on the job offer in the area. Not applying at this stage as wanting to sell the house.

Second point, EOI I am on 120 pts without a job offer is it worth sending or just get a work visa then apply once over in NZ. Husband and daughter 4yrs.

Hi,

I don't think all qualifications need to be assessed by the NZQA. My university was on the "List of recognised qualifications" and when we received our ITA, they only asked for proof of my qualification and not any NZQA assessment. (although we'll see if that changes when they process our application)

My wife's situation was different as her university was not on list so she had to get a full NZQA assessment. Took over 3 months.

Hope this helps.

if your uni is on the list your qualifications should be OK without NZQA.http://glossary.immigration.govt.nz/NR/rdonlyres/CE113D29-EFBF-4924-BA15-00AEF9911F83/0/1080.pdf
(There has to be a shorter version of that link but I don't know it)

Hi Katy

We're from Harrogate and we tried to get our medicals done in York, but they weren't helpful at all (can't remember now where in York they were), and we had to make the appointment weeks ahead. Hubby had his chest x-ray in York though (could it have been Accomb?). I didn't have to have an x-ray because I was pregnant at the time. We actually had our medicals done in Huddersfield last June. Can't remember the costs - so much has happened since, but they were pretty reasonable compared with other people and pretty efficient too. We had no problems with them at all.

Good luck with it all anyway.

Hi Katy

medicals do cost a lot. you'll often find people saying our medicals only cost so and so but just be aware that the medical requirements (and hence the prices) changed significantly at the end of november 2005. the place we went for ours (hitchin pinehill - £500 for 2 adults) put their prices up by approx £100 per person due to the new requirements.

It is still worth ringing around as you've found out - but don't be surprised if you can't match some of the prices quoted on here.

Good luck with it all

Thanks everyone ... we seem to be getting higher prices ...think it could be to do with the changes ..Dr Million was about 150 cheaper but with petrol and the state of our car!! it might not be worth going all the way to Manchester... they can do it in York but we have to go to 2 seperate places but guess we should just bite the bullet and pay .. seems to be a lot of that at the moment!!!
Now I am getting confused about the NZQA requirements ..if we are both teachers don't we have to have our qualifications done before we can do teacher registration?...
Am loving been on the site ..getting loads of helpful info ... just hope that it all turns out successful for us...

:o :o Some great information to be found thank you. Could any one say how I find a list of Dr's who can do the medicals? I can see there is the Dr in York and Manchester, how to contact them, is there a web site?

Warning!!!

Get moving on your FBI Rap Sheets right away. I recently spoke with the FBI and they said that the normal 8 week process is currently taking 12 - 15 weeks.

You can call and check on the status but they will not tell you much. They can only tell you if the police check has been received and an approximate date on when you can expect to receive them.

..wow that seems a long time to process ... mind you I am not too suprised at that ..did you just ring the number in Virginia to find out how it was going....seems that there is a lot of waiting around for things to arrive back and all this is out of our hands... will be glad when we get some stuff back and it will seem like things are moving on!!!

Thanks for all the help

news on the FBI front ... we sent the prints off on 3rd April from York, UK... didn't hear anything about them getting there safe and sound ... and then through our door this morning they came back all done!!!! took about 2.5 weeks ... great service and beat the UK ones who we sent off before and have heard nothing from since!!! ... now if only everything else goes as quick .. OH thinks the efficiency of it all is down to the fantastic letter he wrote to go with them ... could be right on that one!!!
