Just a question, I have some prescribed meds and my doc wants to prescribe me for 6 months, so I wont have to 'run' to see a doc right away after we arrive in New Zealand.
We won't be settling as we will first travel around a bit and research the area's we think we like before we actually settle down, find the IT job for hubby, then a good school, a house close to the school, etc etc.
We dont think we will settle in the first 2 months after arrival.
So thats where my doc said 'Well lets see if I give you enough for 6 months, is that enough? And I said yeah I think so?!'
But now I'm thinking, are you allowed to take that much with you through customs, will I need to declare them, anyone know?
I tried to find info for immigrants importing meds on the Customs site, but can only find that 'travellers (I guess for holidays?) can take enough for 3 months worth, with a note from the doc that you need the meds for your physical well being'.
So anyone have any practice with how this went at the airport when arriving in New Zealand?
I'm not looking forward to any awkward situations (suitcases ripped open, full body search :no )

Hi Hannah

I'm sure that there was thread on this recently but I can't find it sorry.

I remember reading that you should keep the dr's letter with you and the prescription has to be in your name (duh!) Bring a copy of the script and a doc's letter too.

They they are looking for drugs that are the constituents of street drugs. But it's a bit of a giveaway if you have 2 suitcases full of sudafed.

Maybe ask the doc to be a bit more expansive in his covering letter and you could always just go through the red channel and declare them. :D

Thanks Julie en Ivy for your reactions, I contacted my docter and have now a letter stating what meds I'm on and why I have them.
I'll see what customs say about the quantity :cheers
Till next time! (Hectic last weeks before departure!)
