Hi all
Having been granted PR last Friday we are leaving the UK on the 1st May.
Can anyone give me any advise on shipping? I am being told that I need to give my shipping agent our address in NZ and until then they cannot let it leave the UK.
As we don't want to be without our stuff for months we wanted to ship it sooner rather than later can anyone offer me any advice with regard to shipping it before I have a permanant address.
Many thanks
Steve

Hi Steve - can't help you here other than saying that all the shippers we saw said that an e-mail address in NZ would be enough to ship stuff over.
Good luck with the move,

I think we just gave them MH's parents address in the UK, then the hotel where we would be staying for a couple of days. We then emailed the company in NZ when we found a rental to give them the final address.
Seemed to have no problem with this and our stuff arrived 2 months later.

That sounds like they are talking out of their elbow. 99% of us didn't have an address here in NZ when we left the UK. You just give them the new address when you get one.
The only thing that might matter is they would want an idea of where you are heading as they won't want to quote you for Auckland and you end up in Christchurch!
There are masses of shipping threads on here ( a lot by me :D) have a quick search and come back and ask if anyone has used the one you want to go with.
Shop around for shipping prices, get a quote from Letton Percival for your insurance rather than the shippers.

We just gave our email address and the address of the Poste Restante in Christchurch as that was where we were having our mail forwarded to. If you give a Poste Restante address to anyone, all you need to do is go the post office in question with your passport and all post that has been sent to you there will be given to you (thanks Smiler for the tip!).
Sure enough, on our arrival, there was a letter from 'The Moving Company'. We have since given them our new phone nos and rental address now that we have one. Alternatively, just give them your hotel/motel address on arrival.

We did not have an address either, just a destination so they knew which port to send the container to.
We let them (the local NZ office) know before the container arrived what actual address they would deliver it to.
Hubby arrived before me, so we had a landline and a NZ mobile number to give them, but as long as they know they can get hold of you they were happy
