Well we've made the leap and bought a house, went unconditional yesterday and moving in next week. It's on open 2 view for taranaki, new plymouth, hurdon, and it's the maroon coloured one. Yes, I know I need a price for a paint job!

Got the ubiquitous lemon tree in the garden so we just need a few visitors carrying bottles of gin and we are sorted!

The system so far we have found to be very good and very simple (especially getting plans and such from the council) mortgages (apart from the hideous rates) are a dream to get, haven't filled a form in yet myself!

Solicitor seems very good, brief, but gives you the right info, even made a list of the differences between UK house buying and NZ which was nice (no capital gains tax, that sort of thing).

Estate agent was overjoyed as it wasn't on the market for very long, so so far everyone is happy.

Just got to lump all our gear over there now, ah well it can't all be perfect!

Oh and it is 10mins closer to work for me, so only 35 mins each way now!

Can't wait to start digging my pond!

Congratulations on your house purchase:raebanana . Can't wait for it to be us checking out the real estate market here in NZ (we move into our rental in two weeks).

And yay to 20 mins less commuting time a day. That's 20 mins you can spend on painting the house :laugh !!

Hi All, sorry about the pics, they must have taken the house off open 2 view minutes after I had posted. We've got the sold sign up on the house which is nice and just have to sign at the solicitors now....oh and pack!

Channa, is john still okay to help us move on Thursday 13th? Should be a wizz, the heaviest piece of furniture has been picked up by the french polisher and he'll be bringing it back to our new house, mint!

If anyone can give me some advice on putting pics on I have the full set from open 2 view

Paul

PS the lemons aren't ready yet, and I have tetley tea which scores bigtime over yorkshire, but please come anyway, we'd better get some biccies in!
