our price UK 97p - exchange rate UK price for your prices - NZD = 3.30
UK Jam - 2 jars for a £1 - = 2.07
Quavers - 2 packs for a £1 = 2.79
birds custard powder 300 g 57p = 3.07
single pack walkers 30p = 0.69 (not bad considering the price of juice!)
curley wurly 20p = 0.34 (I recon its the heavier items that are expensive?)
wine gums 36p = 0.96
caramac 42 p = 0.76
trebor mints per roll 36p = 0.73

oh my head hurts with all that calculating ( ;) I mean alt+tabing :laugh )

Now I know why our room rental is what it is Marie ;) ...tell him they will have to make the bottle last 7 weeks.....OK :-)

Happy Birthday Joe (I'm late as usual), did you win the footie on Saturday too?

Kim OMG you paid $1.80 for a fudge..., they are only 80c in British shop down in Pakuranga mall....

Smiler, yup Caramacs still exist, and last time I had one it tasted FAB!

One comparison we have got is the Alpen (no NZ muesli comes close in Hubbys opinion) we pay $19 for it, yet in UK when I last bought it, it was £3 (about $8)l however there is one NZ muesli he will eat, but for same weight it works out to $22 so imported Alpen is the cheapest option :roll (and he claims he is not a fussy eater!:p )

Jelly belly's are $48 a kilo. Not as nutritious as Alpen mind you. ;)

I was looking at them in NW and the lady behind the counter offered me free tastings, all those little draws and beans. Yummy. :D

Shouldn't this be on the rip-off NZ thread?!! Still, if people are prepared to pay it, people will charge these outrageous prices. But, if it costs that much to import the stuff, well all good and fine, but if not, that's when we have a problem. But reading this has got me wanting a Caramac now - will have one later YUM!!

Mmmmm, had forgotten that one. Will buy some today. I've been munching my way through toffee pops, mellowpuffs, milk arrowroot, licorice, marshmellow easter eggs.....not doing my diet much good but loving being back. Have a bit of an issue with NZ dairy milk - it's foul!! How could I have grown up loving the stuff??

Happy birthday Joe - hope you had a good one, shame about the weather.

interesting that when you go home for a visit and offer to bring things back for people the majority of the list is 'comfort' foods. top amongst them being sweets and crisps.

Kat

Porridge is the same but there are also the add-on flavours, oats and apple or wild berry, like this stuff http://www.woolworths.co.nz/HomeShopping/shop.asp

There was a lot more in New World too. Porridge come in bags of oats, boxes of oats, satchets and little bowls that you can shove in the microwave after adding water or milk.

:D So I guess you'll still be getting your oats then? :D

This has just reminded me that we've got about 4 packets of Alpen coming with our shipment tomorrow (I had a thing for Alpen when I was pregnant). Also Special K (doesn't taste the same here) and Cadbury's Brunch Bars (ditto the last comment). We also have gravy granules (although I loathe the stuff), Marmite and Robinsons Strawberry and Kiwi squash!! Craig refuses to even let me look in the British shop in Riccarton - says we haven't come all this way just to pay through the nose for crisps and chocolate and when in Rome and all that - meanie!!!!

Hubby said this too, until he discovered he really wanted Alpen, then when I come back from the british shop he always asks what else I got him, usual requests are Fruit & nut or Fudge

and who mentioned Whole nut, I cant stop singing "nuts, whole hazelnuts, cadbury make and cover them in chocolate" :roll
