We are wondering about how the NZ health care system works. From what we've read, regular visits to the GP are paid for by users, but most everything else (especially anything emergency/serious) is covered by the state. Is this true? And, how does this apply to a family in NZ on a work visa (plus visitors/students in tow)? Would we need to buy any health coverage?
We are also wondering if NZ allows people to choose not to have their children receive immunization shots (injections). We know from our previous experience that Canada is pretty liberal about this, and that France is somewhat liberal but does restrict non-immunized kids from registering in schools. What's the policy in NZ?
Cheers,
Rob
