We are doing the sensible thing and getting our container shipped four weeks before us. We are then moving in with the Mother-in-Law (I know! Cue Les Dawson gags :p )
The question is what the heck am I doing about mail redirection and notification of changes of address. The sensible thing would be to send it all on down to the MiL but after a month I suspect it is all gonna get real messy. :(
Anybody got any survival tips.

We had our mail redirected to my brothers for 3 months .
He opened it and scanned anything important and e mailed it to us ,if it was anything we needed he would of sent it on .
I dont think he actually needed to send anything ,only time we got mail sent to us was when he was away and dear old Dad took over ,he sent us a visa bill [which we do online ]and a cheque from one of the kids schools ,and so we had to send that back to the UK to be put in our UK account :roll

We are having all mail redirected from our old address for 6 months down to our friends in palmy and then she forwards it to us, and the cost is 44 quid(i hate these keyboards without the pound sign). And due to this arrangement with the royal mail we have ordered stuff from the UK, given our old address and its been forwarded to us at no extra cost:clap :laugh

That's a good idea!! :clap It costs enough for redirection so you may as well make the most of it!!

LOL loving the rediection bargain - i hear ebay calling ......
would your tennants object to posting on ? perhaps if you left a big envelope x say 3 - with plenty of postage on to get sent on to MIL's ??? after that redirection ...
geuss it would depend on tennants .

We did a redirection to my Mum's place (moved there 4 weeks before leaving the country) - like Marie P's family, she scanned everything & sent only the urgent stuff, but you could equally change the redirection to your NZ address once you have one.

We too have looked into this, as we plan to move into my fathers for a while once the house is sold.
The best option seems to be to re-direct the mail to your new UK adress - this has to be in multiples of one month - and then when you move out to NZ you can re-direct from your old house direct to NZ address (ie rental). You must keep some old utility bills from your house for this, but Royal Mail told us it would be no problem at all. It can all be done by internet once you have set up the original re-direction.
Double check all this though - I never trust info given to me by some unknown bod on a phone :laugh

Hi Emily
I don't trust the bods on the phone either.
Double check though, I found it said on the RM site that they can set up redirects once you are here but that they cannot redirect an existing redirection. We were told 6 months ago, we could not do either.
